Baby Sitting fees

[deleted account] ( 9 moms have responded )

Hi, Im going to be getting my fist baby sitter soon for my son and I have no idea what the going price is for babysitters. Anyone who has recently hired someone and can let me know what they pay their sitters would help me out a lot. Also I am in Michigan. Thanks so much!

Wow! You all have it great. Here in Southern California I pay about $5 per kid per hour and that's really on the low end. I I know a college student from church who gets $20 an hour.

I've found that the average price for a babysitter is around $20 a day; however, we actually were recommended to this wonderful lady who only charges $70 a week.. Check out your options and make sure you choose someone who WANTS to watch your children. Chances are, someone who will charge less is more willing to watch your son because he/she loves children.... not because they're trying to make you regret paying a babysitter.. Try your local church or high school!

I live in S. indiana and pay between $5-$6/hr. We live in the country and pay a little more if we really like the sitter and she has a little further to travel. Make it worth her drive out to our place. (We live 20-30 min from town). We figure $6 is close to what the girl would make after taxes if you worked for min. wage.

I tend to pay our sitters what I would pay the child care center in our area for daily sitting. The center is 3.75 per child. For evenings, I tend to pay more just so that they will be willing to come back!! My girls are 15 months apart, currently 3 and almost 2 and can be quite a handful.

I have a 17 year old daughter and she charges $6 per hour if there is one child and she gets $9 per hour for 3 children. We live in Indianapolis which is a fairly large city.

I live in BC canada and child care here is $45 a day up to 8 hrs then $5 extra every hour after that!!!!! I moved here a year ago from Ontario Canada and it was only $25 a day. The best thing to do would be to call all your options and see what they charge. Visit them all and you'll know which one you and your son is most comfortable with. Unfortuantely it's a huge expense but your paying for someone to take care of the most important person in your life.

Good luck!!!

Here in Utah babysitters are plentiful...we only pay about $2/hr per child maximum. I've had sitters tell me they charge $1/hr...but that would be robbery!! :) I always pay more for the ones that need diaper changes and more if the dishes are done and the toys are picked up. If they have to prepare and serve a meal or put them to bed i usually pay extra as well. be sure to ask other moms. you'd be surprised at what they know about sitters. i found out that one of mine was telling boys they could meet her outside on our front lawn to talk... yikes!
once you get a sitter, be sure to ask her if it's ok that you have a nanny cam. even if you don't. ;)

We were thinking 40 for the day. It would be from 730-600 so around 10 hours. That would be about 4 dollars and hour.

My husband and I like to pay whatever the minimum wage per hour is for our area, or we put a maximum of 20-30 dollars for the time we are gone. Usually the babysitter has an idea of how much money they want and you can negotiate.
