My teenage daughter dropped her phone, VERIZON said they would replace it only after a $89.99 deductable. I only paid $75 for the phone in the first place. with money being tight dont waste your time with their ins plan they rip you off. It doesnt cover anything. Spread the word.

That's because you got the phone at a discount.

The full retail price of a lot of the phones is $500+. You get them at a discount by signing a 2 year contract. So while you paid only $75 for the device, it cost VzW much closer to full retail to get it.

I go through PagePlus & pay $30 for 1200 minutes & 1200 texts. The service is great because it uses the Verizon network. I bought the cheapest phone they had. Saving a bundle since I no longer have Verizon.

i hated verizon! i loved alltel sometimes. i had 19 phones with alltel/verizon tho. and i only had their service for 3 years. my phone froze up one day and i was 2 hours away from home and my husband who was deployed overseas was trying to call me. well i took it to the store down the road where they said that i was available for an up grade. so i got the upgrade but still had to pay like 300 dollars for a smart phone. then that phone was broken and wouldnt even send a text message. so the next day i drove the 2 hours back to the store to speak with the same man. well he told me that it worked fine but i still had to pay like 30 dollars restocking fees and i ended up leaving with the exact phone i had in the first place but a different color. i used an upgrade and spent 300 dollars. they would not refund my money at all because they said i was still getting a new phone! wtc. because of our new deployment orders i got us out of our 2 line contract. well they tried to charge us 650 dollars for the disconect fee and 2 months of bills but his was not supose to get charged and our bill was paid up. well with 1 phone call i got it down to 220 dollars somehow. then the day it was due i called and paid 120 and said i would pay the rest on next payday in 2 weeks well i got a new bill for 32 dolllars! ha screwed them. lol

I've never had a problem with Verizon at all.. And my BIL works for them, so if I ever had a problem, I could just ask him I guess. The never ripped us off or anything. They've been nothing but helpful (and no, they don't even know that my BIL works for them so it's not special treatment or anything like that). The only company that we had a problem with was T-Mobile. THEY lied! About everything and ended up charging us a bogus charge of $200! They finally dropped it b/c we told my husband's command about it. They checked it out, saw it was bogus and talked to T-Mobile and that was that!

Very strange did you call the insurance company? I have asurion through my verizon and have replaced my phone 3 times and my hubbys once you can do it like 2xs a year for $50. Make sure you call the insurance not verizon.

It is all nice and fine to complain about the cell phone carriers, but they are in business to make money. I have had Verizon Wireless since they took over Alltel. I haven't had a problem with them. They have nothing to do with the insurance, it is independant. If you drop your phone or get it wet, you should have to pay for a new one. It isn't their responsibility to take care of your phone for you. If you want to replace your phone, go find one from someone who has upgraded, look on ebay, or keep your old phone as a spare. All you have to do is call and they will switch phones for you for free.

Try and find a Verizon store and connect wiht a particular associate there. I always go back to the same place and try to get the same guy. I will even come back if he is not working if it is an issue I need help with. My daughter's phone broke twice and he was able to do some tricky things for us andwe only paid the $50 replacement fee - now she has the insurance And when I wanted to upgrade to a BB a couple of years ago he was really good and got it so that I paid only a one year instead of two year fee. They seem to have all the tricks up their sleeves but you need to find a good associate to deal with.

i have verizon and i never have an issue. and i feel like yea its expensive but at the same u get what u pay for..all these no name cell phone carriers are crap...pocket, straight talk yea u may get unl everything for $50 but where the hell can u use the phone. in ur "home area"..what if u go on vacation and need ur phone. u wont b able to use bc then u will b roaming and believe me that can get expensive or have no coverage. and all this talk abt the insurance is crap too bc the bigger cell phone carriers all deal with asurion, i know at&t does. and hello the fee u pay is a deductible just like for ur car insursance. if u crash ur car, they're not going to fix it for free....

depending on the type of phone you have, like my env 2 was 50 dollars however with a phone i have now i would pay more due to the fact it's a more expensive phone (smart phone) and it's a hassle to pay that i know but its way cheaper than buying a brand new phone of what I have. Had been in the army i had many different typs of phones from different companies (had all but at&t) and they all suck by the way. all have hidden costs and screw you over it's not just verizon. (unfortunately most of the time you have to call and yell at them in order for you to get what you want and it's true about the insurance and water damage.) first env phone water damage hit with 50 dollars deductible then sent a refurbished env phone called complained and corrected it with a env2. you have to hassle in order to get what you want (if you dont they will take advantage and send you crap) *they did change my price plan (same plan but cheaper so i was totally ok with that) had verizon for almost 3 years now

Leaving Verizon once contract is up. 9 mos and counting. There are hidden fee's, and they have double billed, and changed my plan with out asking. Finally, got it back to the original, only to find out they did not add the features I asked. Also, do not get important voice mail messages, for a week or two????

we have just switched over to straight talk and i love it. we were paying over $100 a month for two phones and shared minutes, but now we can pay $60 a month and we're not sharing minutes. Plus if one month money runs tight we don't have a contract so we don't have to worry about collection calls and all that. Plus a little known fact, they are by verizon, with out the hassle.

one word....KOODO! I love it! My husband loves it! I think it's only in Canada though. I was going to do Virgin mobile but we don't have Verizon here...It seems like the Rogers of the USA...Rogers blows and i'm so glad i'm done with them! If you're in Canada look up koodo.com and check out the deals they have. Neither of us are on contract and when my husband is gone on the other side of the country he can still call me for free...no roaming fees either. LOVE IT!

Definetly be sure to read the fine print. I don't know how many times my phone has been dropped and broken and even stolen. Verizon has replaced my phone several times for free but that's only because it had no visible damage, didn't get wet and I could still turn it on. When it did have visible damage and I couldn't turn it on or that one time it got stolen, I had to go through Asurion (the insurance company). Our insurance plan only cost us $50 and they'll replace the phone for that but if you need a new phone now, Verizon will replace it but if your contract isn't up you will have to pay full price for it. And that's not the price in the big red bold letters, it's the price in the teeny tiny letters which happens to be a lot more than the price in the big red bold letters. My advice is if you don't want to be taken advantage of by a cell phone company...don't get a cell phone. AND if you need to have a cell phone get yourself a protective cover and just be extra careful with it.

I have Verizon (I do hate this company, I miss Alltel) but I was always told with both companies that if it is your fault you have to pay for it (dropping, water damage, etc) I also hate that at Verizon there are no "FREE" phones. you can get an upgrade but its only up to a $30 value (bullshit) and at Alltel I was able to get the LG Scoop for free. I hate Verizon and I would NEVER recommend it to anyone.

Actually they did that is what made me mad. I talked to the Verizon sales rep prior to switching said no problem as long as you have no water damage they will replace the phone for free. His exacts words were even if you drive over it with a car.

I have Verizon and I dropped my EV3 in a tub of water on accident. we got my and my brothers phones buy 1 get 1 free (mine was the free one and we ended up only spending $50 on his). Their insurance is handled through a separate company and depending on the damage to the phone depends on how much you have to pay to replace it. My phone started working again so I didn't have to get a new one but if I had to get a new one it would've been $40. They don't fully explain the insurance policy, which sucks, but it's not like they tell you they'll replace it for free or anything. I wouldn't say don't waste your time but definitely beware of what's going on.
