My month old son has what looks like a burn rash on his bottom. Yes, we have changed diapers but it seems not to be that either. We just recently went soley on formula, the same formula they gave him in the hospital, and it didn't mess with him then. We have been giving him a tiny bit of rice cereal in his milk at night only (I am naming everything I know that may be of help in diagnosing this problem). We don't know what its from or how to get rid of it. It hurts him though. One part of the rash though looks like a burn blister if you pop the blister. Someone help please!!!!!

I greatly appreciate all of your help. I have stopped the rice cereal, his "booboo" was more runny then needed. I am taking him to his doctor in the morning to make sure there isn't anything else that may be wrong or if he is allergic. Just to be on the safe side. Once again thanks so much.

stop the rice babies under 4 months should only have formula or breast milk sounds like an allergy and his poo is burning his bottom because of it.

my son has gotten a rash like that once, and it was caused by huggies diapers! he was in one huggies for about an hour tops and he had a rash that looked like he had been in the same diaper for a week. im so sorry your baby is going thru this....

First off you need to stop the rice cereal in his milk, 1 month old babies do not have the stomach to digest anything other than BM or formula at this age! Next you need to have him tested for milk protein allergies/intolerance.
It reminds me of my son who at 6 weeks of age developed 'nappy rash' by the time he was 6 mths old I had tried every different formula and cream on the market. He got to the point where he constantly had a red, bleeding, weeping open burn wound on his bum. He spent 20 hrs of the day with no nappy because it was so severe.
I found out later that every time he had cows milk protein his stomach would not be able to digest it would cover it in stomach acid and spit it out literally burning him from the inside out. And yes formula has cows milk protein in it and you also pass it through your breast milk.
I eventually found a doctor who was an allergy and intollerance specialist who put him on a medicated formula called 'neocate' and i swear it took less than a week and he was a different baby - sleeping through the night, happy and the sore started to subside and I have never looked back!
My son is 3 now and he has been eating dairy since he was two, so yes they do grow out of it.
Good luck.

yeast infection is my guess (boys get em too). my daughter got them frequently. try a mix of water and vinergar (way more water than vinegar). you'll know 2 ways: if it doesn't hurt, it's probably yeast (vinegar will actually feel soothing if it's a yeast infection)...keep trying it and the rash should go away...if it goes away..it was yeast. :)

Could it be contact dermatitis caused by the soap, lotion, or rash cream you've used? That's a tough one to figure out, being so young and having so little going on to attribute the rash to. Good luck!

my daughter used to get what sounds like the same thing. She was extra sensitive in the diaper area and we too, changed her on a regular basis!!! It is a diaper rash, very very red slightly raised area with open sores on her bottom!! I found what work for us was to make sure the area was dry before I applied anything to the skin so that the cream would stick to the skin better, i fanned it with another diaper until the skin was dry to the touch or used a clean cloth. I switch from the tride and true penatin cream to a diaper cream called Sudocream and when there were the open areas I mixed a little polysporin into the diaper cream as well to help with the healing!!! Trust me my daughter screamed when we touched the area to clean it, even to have her in the warm water of the bath, but this routine work for us and once it was clear we used the diaper cream on its own on a regular basis and lots of frequent changes!! Hope this helps and good luck.

my fourth baby has rashes really bad also. the best thing to do is go the cheapest diapers you can get. wal-mart brand they say the cheapest has the less dies in them. and what i did is put a cool cloth on him and talk to you pedi, they will be able to give him meds ( creams) that will help a lot. i hope i helped a little. Good luck. oh and don't put powder and Vaseline it dont work for that bad of a rash it makes it worse. it smuthers( not sure on spelling) it. and they don't let it breath.
