Getting pregnant while nursing is not rare now the days it is in fact very common!!!
It just hits me that people still say such things... or like you must have had a period to become pregnant again...Lets clear up some facts and there are no variations to it:
1. Breast feeding is NOT a contraceptive!
2. You do NOT have to HAD YOUR PERIOD after childbirth before you can pregnant AGAIN!
3. And YES you can go from pregnancy right into the next one!
4. You do NOT have to have SEX or INTERCOURSE to get PREGNANT!
5. You CAN get PREGNANT with pedding, because SPERM has a lifespan and loves to travel and that fast!!

Oh Yes!!! as you've already heard ... lol if you are pregnant, and nursing - make sure you take very good care of yourself or you'll start to see your health and your teeth deteriorate. Good supplements are key!! I wish I had been taking the supplements I take now, while I was pregnant and nursing. My teeth would have been saved. I've had to get $12,000 worth of dental work done in the last few years, and that's because my body took from me to give to my babies. So again... take good care of yourself.

First of all I am a Healthcare worker and think it is a shame that such ignorance and lack of knowledge of your own body still exists, to tell such old stuff from the 17th century.
Of course you can pregnant if you breast feed, what would that have to do with you not getting pregnant? Ask yourself:"Is breastmilk a contraceptive??
And "NO" you do not have to have a period after childbirth before you can get pregnant again. So you could be very well pregnant!!! Stop doing this home pregancy tests, they don't show the HCG hormone until a while. You need to go an see your OB/GYN doctor and get a blood test which will show the HCG pregnancy hormon very early on!
Please start to learn and love your body, and stop believing such old nonsense! Thats why there are so many unwanted pregancies, and such large families, because the older generation was trimmed of just having babies and lacking of knowledge because such nonsense was handed down from generation to generation. You can do your own family planing with just a little knowledge of yourself! Good Luck!

As a mother of 4 boys, two sets of boys 15 months apart, YES!!!! In fact in seem to get pregnant easier when I'm breast feeding. Also, as a side note, my son stopped breast feeding, suddenly, and that was my first symptom of pregnancy. The pediatrician asked if I could be pregnant, and I was! I had no idea that I was pregnant, as I'd not had a period yet. Babies sometimes don't like the smell and taste of a pregnant mom's mils, so they suddenly stop.

Yes you can get pregnant, you are very fertile when you are nursing. If the baby starts throwing up the breast milk, that's another indicator. Use a condom if you don't want to get pregnant yet.

YES YOU CAN GET PRENANT WHILE YOU'RE NURSING. Hypothetically speaking you shouldn't be able to bc you're not supposed to be having your period but well let's put it this way my mother and her brother are 11 mo apart, my oldest brother and sister are 11 mo and my husband and his brother are 11 mo apart and both my mother and his breastfed until they found out they were pregnant. Oh and did I mention I am breastfeeding and just found out that I am pregnant? So yeah I'm pretty positive you can get pregnant while nursing. If you're having symptoms see a dr even if you're not prego it sounds like something is up.

my coworker is pregnant and she got pregnant while breastfeeding. Actually, that's how she found out! Her son started spitting up her breastmilk and after a few days, she wondered if she was pregnant.

When the baby is getting all his/her nutrition from breastfeeding so until the age of 6 months and going no more than 4 hours between feeds, I was told that breastfeeding would be effective. I want to get pregnant so was checking why I'm still not ovulating even though I got my period and it's cuz some women will start their cycle and not ovulate for 3 or 4 cylces. But other women will start ovulating the month before their cycle returns. We're all sooo different.

Yes you definitely can get pregnant while nursing. I did when my daughter was about 4 months old - I did not expect it as I was nursing - but lo and behold my son arrived the following summer. Check with your doctor right away.

Nikita is not correct about not having a cycle until you finish nursing. This varies by women. I had my period about a month after I stopped bleading after the birth of each of my 4 kids despite the fact that I was exclusively nursing each baby. Some women do not have a period while nursing (my sisters) but some do. Both are perfectly normal. HOWEVER, not having a period does not mean you cannot get pregnant. My OBGYN was sure to make that clear to me.

Like the majority has stated you can get pregnant while breastfeeding. As far as having a cycle, it usually doesn't start again until you finish nursing. It was about 2 months before I had a cycle after I stopped nursing.

Yes, you can and its easier to get pregnant also. Hormones and uterous is prime for fertilazation during breast feeding. It happens trust me I became pregnant during and my first two are thirteen mts apart

Yes you certainly can get pregnant. Breastfeeding for me was a very effective form of contraception up until I cut down to a couple of feeds a day as each child reached one year. As soon as I did, I concieved. Didn't have any periods for 7 years!!!! (I've had 4 children in that time).
As for your negative tests, it is possible they are wrong. I had a friend who was certain she was pregnant (wasn't having periods and her belly was growing), but both pregnancy tests and blood tests came back negative time and time again (she never got a positive ever!) but after going back to the doctor I think it took an ultrasound to finally proove she was right!
However, it depends. You could be having fake symptoms or it could be something else causing it. Absolutely talk to your doctor if you are concerned.

my last two pregnancies were conceived while I was still breastfeeding!
Both times it happened after I cut down the amount of feedings. I think that
it is pretty rare to get pregnant if you are breastfeeding every few hours, but
once you cut back it is easy.

Those who say it is birth control or that it is rare for people to get pregnant while nursing are very misinformed. My first two kids are 12 1/2 months apart - got pregnant while nursing. Doctor told me he sees it all the time. You should have your doctor run the tests to see. Good luck!

Go get a blood test and save money on pregnancy tests and DON'T I repeat DON'T listen to your mother in law. You CAN get pregnant while breastfeeding. If you think you're pregnant start taking prenatal vitamins.

yes you can get pregnant while nursing - especially if your baby sleeps well at night. an abundance of night time nursing seems to help to keep ovulation away for most people.

Everyone seems to think you are not able to, but it's a huge misconception. Yes indeed you can get pregnant while breastfeeding. I am proof of that. When my daughter was 7 months I found out that I was pregnant once again with my 3rd. So if you are having symptoms, you more than likely are.

Yes, yes, yes! You CAN definitely get pregnant while nursing! It is a myth that you cannot get pregnant while nursing. In fact, I got pregnant while nursing. I was even told by my doctor that you are more fertile when you are nursing. It certainly sounds like you are, so I would call you doctor's office and get the blood test done.

Yes, you can. My first child was 6 months old and breastfed when I got pregnant. I agree with everyone about seeing your doctor. It could be something else that is causing the symptoms.

:) Oh, sweetie, yup. You sure can get preggers while nursing. While it's not common, it can happen, but your mother-in-law is half-right... it's rare. The hormones released while you nurse are kind-of Mother Nature's way of maintaining enough of Mother's nutrition for the new baby before there's another one stealing calories and calcium from the same Mama. I agree with the other mommies on here, you won't know for sure (considering your past history with preg-tests) until u go to your Dr. Good luck, one way or another!!

Yes you sure can!

You actually ovulate before you get your period, so the first time you ovulate after having your baby you wont even know it!

A lot of people think breastfeeding is a form of birth control (and it sort of is!), but it is not an effective or reliable one. In fact, once your baby begins to go longer than 3-4 hours between feeds at night, then it is very very unreliable!

I would go to the drs for a blood test to find out once and for all if I was you!!

Best of luck for the outcome you are hoping for, whatever that may be :)

Yes, I got pregnant when my daughter was 11 months old and still nursing. There are horomones released by nursing that are similar to those found in birth control. That is why you only need the mini pill while nursing.(has less horomones, I believe you get one of the two). Nursing is a form of birth control, just not a very effective method.

YES YOU CAN GET PREGNANT WHILE NURSING YOUR BABY!!! (As long as you're having sex, too.) ;)

I would recommend going to your doctors and getting a blood test to be certain.

I didn't get my period when I was nursing my daughter until she was 15 months old. I was still nursing her when I became pregnant with my youngest, and continued to nurse until my daughter was about 20 months old and 3 months along in pregnancy.
