hi chick
i had the same problem with my son he just would not sleep in his room:(
sooooo he always changes his mind on what he want so i decided to paint it all green apart from one wall added white to the green to make it lighter for the wall i hadn't done then we painted brown trees and let are son put his hands in the paint and do hand print for the leaves in all his favourite colours and paint you have just mix it all to make different colours
never had a night out of his room since

IKEA has some great ideas and then you can go and buy the stuff cheaply somewhere else. What theme are you looking for?

Edit to add: There is some REALLY cool chalk board paint to spray that you can use on one wall and then have your child decorate with his/her artwork.

You can also have THEM paint some things. There are also decals you can find at craft stores cheaply too.

In a model home I saw old board games affixed to the wall. It was so cute and I am sure you could find some boards and pieces at a garage sale...and it does't have to have all the pieces!

We used fun decals for our son's bathroom. They were really cute, easy to use and as a bonus... they were on clearance... you could always look for fun decals to put on the walls and then accent with pillows, blankets, etc. for just a little $$

Hi! I actually did our daughter's Court's room last year in a Parisian theme on about $100!
My tips would be to do a neutral paint color on the walls and bring in color through the bedding and window treatments. A really great thing to do is give the furniture a "facelift". SPRAY PAINT is your friend! I bought an old headboard and end tables at a garage sale, washed them and sprayed them black. (Hint semi gloss spraypaint is great for wiping off). Also depending on the them you could get scrap paper in a sports them or whatever he would like and frame it (walmart sells inexpensive frames for about $3) and them in the center you could hot glue the letter of his name. Use twin sheets for curtains to save money on window treatments. Wow there are so many ideas and ways you could go on this one.....what are you thinking as far as theme?

You can go to www.instructables.com to get great ideas for stuff you can make. I found instructions on how to make a giant felt board that the whole family likes to play with, and on builing a bed frame with drawers underneath, etc. Plus there are some really great crafts for things to do with your son, and green ideas as well. It can really get your imagination going!

We got our furniture from craigslist.com and found that it was a really good way to cut costs.
