how did you guys select your babies diaper brand? I got samples at the hospital as well as from a baby shower, but was curious how others made the choice?

pampers seem to be the best. we have tried every brand both generic and brand name and they seem to be the only one's that work! If you get on Target's mailing list or if you have a Kroger grocery store those 2 places seem to be the cheapest places to get them and they always send coupons. the only problem we ever had was leaking through the night when he started sleeping 12 hours, but we found that pampers makes night time diapers and they are amazing!

We used nothing but Pampers initially...Swaddlers to begin with etc. but they are expensive. Then we tried a cheaper alternative...Costco Kirkland signature brand. They don't come in the smallest size but I believe are similar to Huggies (probably come out of the same plant) and worked very well with few leaks...very similar to the name brand. Costco also has formula (we used Similac) which comes in large sizes at a great discount. Hope this helped! ~Cindy

I have always used Huggies or Pampers. They seem to be the only brand that works the best. BUT...I recently discovered TARGET brand. They are super cheap and work just as good as Huggies. They are soft and have a super cute pattern. Give them a try...less than 7 bucks a pack!

I preferred Pampers Swadlers for a my newborn, but then found Huggies fit much better. Luvs are okay for daytime use, but will soak through at night. So we used Huggies at night. When Ben got older all diapers soaked through at night, so we started investing in Huggies Night-time diapers. I have tried some of the cheaper brands and they either don't absorb enough and leak or they don't fit well and leak. Its not worth saving on diapers only to have to do more laundry! I suggest signing up online with the company you prefer for coupons and deals. Then compare flyers in the Sunday paper to see who has the best deal that week. Take your coupons to that store and save the most.

I agree, Trial and error :) We tried Huggies and they leak out the sides when my son peed. We like Pampers. I even use the no-name instore brands and find them good as well.

We found that if the baby has a rounded bottom, then Huggies work great. If the baby has a flat bottom, then Pampers are a better choice. Huggies always leaked for us, no matter how often the diaper would get changed.

Yes, you just have to try each one and see what works for your baby. We have tried everything and have stayed with the diapers from Walmart. They are cheap for a big box (like $13 vs. $20+ for huggies) and they work better than huggies. They have never leaked and hold a lot. You just have to see what works for you!

Oh Ya...also the kirkland brand from costco are great. They are just as nice as name brand diapers. I would describe them as being a mix between huggies and pampers.

I use the walmart parents choice brand and I love them. I need to save the cash and I never have a problem with them. I do vote for huggies however if you are going to buy name brand diapers. They always last through the night and so do the walmart brand. My kids do not have sensitive skin but my sisters kids did and she used the walmart brand also. I breast feed my babies and have the crazy messy poop, which also the walmart diapers do fine for this. If you buy the walmart brand wipes they are pretty harsh. I like the sensitive kind and then they are just as nice as the name brand wipes.

I had always heard good things from friends that Huggises were the best, however when my son was born he was soo little that the one thing that fir the best was the pampers swaddlers. We used those until he outgres the sizing and we have switched to Luvs which fit great except we use the Pampers Baby-Dri at night otherwise he leaks through them.

I tried the ones from the hospital and signed up for samples as well, but before I made the decision on one certain brand, I looked to see what diaper didn't leak. That is what made my decision for me. We use Huggies. What makes it even better is I get coupons for them all the time.

i only used huggies diapers and wipes for the first 6 months, i had no problems so why switch... then i had a free pkg of pampers wipes and couldnt believe how much softer they were, so i tried the diapers too. now that is the only brand we use in this house (for 6 months now)

I just tried whatever people gave me. I have used all versions of Pampers, all versions of Huggies, Luvs, Walmart brand, Target brand, Kmart brand, Walgreens brand and more. I used to get paid to review them for a mom savings site. I have discovered that I like different diapers for my son and daughter.
The baby's shape also comes into play. My daughter was really skinny so Huggies leaked out the leg holes all the time. Pampers or Luvs were the best choice for here. Parents choice from walmart and huggies are the best for my son. I just work really hard at getting a great deal. If I can't get the diapers for less than the cheaper brand that works or about the same price than I get the cheap brand.
My best advice would be to try them all. I love Pampers and Huggies the best but I will use Luvs, Parents choice without feeling bad and worrying about messes.

parents choice (wal-mart) by trial and error. but be warned they are not the same everywhere (can you believe it?). We used to live in MI when we started to use them and loved them then about 6 months before we moved the 'changed' them and they were awful so we switched to luvs (which I also like). Then when we moved to MN I bought a quick package of Parent's Choice amidst the chaos of the move and they were like the 'original' ones in MI and they haven't changed them yet here (hopefully they never will!). So just a note on that, they apparently are not the same everywhere!

I use huggies and dollar general brand and both have worked great! I normally use huggies and night and the dollar general brand during the day in order to save money.

We used pampers with my daughter. She got a rash with everything else, but we us luvs with my son and they work just as well for him.

I use huggies and if you sign up online they send you coupons monthly. They have $1.50 off a pack and if you buy the small one this is a huge deal. They send you like four of these and then they sent me $3.00 of the natural ones which made them only cost $7.00. Plus they sent me $2.00 off overnight huggies and I swear by these. Buy a box with the coupon and they last for a while and you don't have to worry about messy sheets and clothing in the am.

hi! i have tried a lot of different diaper brands, and like a lot of people have said, its trial and error. i had many people tell me that Pampers were the way to go. they worked well for a while, but as my daughter got bigger, the fit wasnt as good. then i switched to Huggies. i really like them, but unfortunatly the cost is somewhat high. so i decided to try the Parents Choice brand from Wal-Mart. i have actually been very impressed with them. my daughter is now 7 months, and i started her on those around 5 1/2 months. they hold leaks, and are very soft. if they werent, believe me, i wouldnt use them. i do recommend using higher priced ones (Pampers, Huggies, etc.) while your baby is younger, although i have known plenty of people who have used Parents Choice, Target brand, etc. and have had no complaints. i actually used Kirkland brand diapers that i got from my baby shower (i have no clue where those are from! =]..Costco?) when my daughter was very young and they worked just fine. it is all trial and error! babies are different! i recommend generic on just about everything though..i use a lot of Wal-Mart brand things, especially baby stuff, because there are strict guidelines that they must meet in order to sell baby products using a generic name. hope this helped a little! just figured i would put in my two cents =].

parents choice are defentily the worse ! they might cost less but you will pay more in the long run ,when you add up all the laundry soap you have to use when the diaper leaks every time your baby pees ,and i found i used more of them because i was changing her so offten because i was afraid of them leaking after just one time of peeing in it! luvs are a little more expensive but they work so much better! i also liked pampers

Definately trail and error, I've always used Parents Choice from Wal-Mart and have a had few leakage problems, my friend on the other hand couldn't b/c her little dude was such a heavy 'peer' he leaked through everything! PC are half the price of Pampers so if the work is way cheaper than using coupons!!!

I tried everything with my son. Pampers were the only ones that worked for him. We have just stuck with them with my daughter since that is what I'm used to buying. I do use Huggies Overnights when my son is sleeping though...they work much better for his 12 hours of sleep each night.

I used luvs, huggies, pampers, and the no name brand kind. I found that the off brand was ok when the baby was smaller or during the day. At night I would use the name brand since I would change the baby less. I know this sound like a pain but it saved me a ton of $.

[deleted account]

you just need to try them out on your baby! every baby will wear their diaper differently, depending on their leg size, body size, and how much they poop/pee etc. we found that the target brand holds just as much pee/poop as the pampers swaddlers at a fraction of the cost. they're not as soft as the swaddlers, but our daughter doesn't seem to mind.

my suggestion would be to buy the smallest pack to sample the brands to see which ones you like best. if you find a good deal, buy a lot (but save your receipts)-- it's hard to predict how fast your baby will grow and how many diapers she'll need. grab a good deal and return the unopened packages when she's moved on to the next size

[deleted account]

my last grandbabies used pamper swaddlers...we just loved them & they kept them dry....it's nice that you have so much to choose from....i used cloth diapers when my girls were babies!

We chose to use Nature Babycare, as a friend kindly gave us a few to try. We love these as there ECO friendly & they cost the same price as pampers or huggies. Nature Baby r biogradeable. Myson has ony had 7 leeks since he was born, now he is nearly 2. He has only had nappy rash twice due too teething. We also use them for 7 month old daughter.

with my 2 older boys i used huggies & pampers. i kept having them leek or explode. They also got alot of nappie rash.

Trail and error. Also I used cloth diapers for the first 6 months and would still be using them if my job did not reduce my hours. ( I did not want another unnecessary bill)

Huggies work the best but they stink. Right out of the package and smell worse once the baby wets them. Pampers didn't smell much better and they where pricy. Walmart brand was too thin for my comfort at night. Luvs the price is right and they work great. I also like the blue layer that turns green on the inside when he does his business. When Luvs are not an option I'll use the target brand. They are very nice but target is not convenient to shop at.

Love Huggies! We have used them for both our kiddos; one girl, one boy. Huggies, don't leak which is important, and there are always coupons for them. We have tried LUVs brand or other off brand diapers to try and save money. But, always go back to Huggies. One thing that really helped was we started buying diapers when I was about 4 months pregnant with my kids. When they were born we had enough sizes, Newborn-3 to last and we even had some left over.

With my second daughter, I chose Huggies. It was the only brand that did not give her a rash. She had very sensitive skin. With my others, I just tried different ones. With my son, I used Parents choice. They are cheaper and do the job. I would not go any cheaper because some diapers do leak if not strong enough. Best advice--trial and error. I have four children and diapering was different for them all.

I would say that if your intrested in trying alot of diffrent brands I would recommend, huggies first because the cut out for the babys sore little belly button is the biggest, and best. then I would go for Papers swaddlers, they are sooo soft and fit a tiny bottom great! I found that luvs work best when your baby is inbetween sizes, All daipers work, I just found that the cheap ones like walmart brand have a nasty strong odor even with just pee! makes me feel like there is a bad chemical or something in them, considering this doesn't happen when my daughter wets any other brand! IDK try them all GOOD LUCK! every baby is diffrent...shop sales!

Quoting Lisa:

Quoting Josie:

Whatever held what went in there was what we used. The name brands leaked on us or just didnt fit as well. We ended up with Walmart brand "People's Choice".

We loved the "People's Choice" as well, they were a great fit and a reasonable price.  With my daughter we only used disposibles when we were travelling and used cloth to save money and the environment and because most brands gave her a rash.  You can get awesome cloth diapers now that velcro and don't need any pins, and liers that peel off taking all the mess with them and you just flush it away.  I used a diaper pail with some borax in it and washed diapers every couple of days.  If I ever have annother child it will be cloth all the way.

I absolutely agree with Lisa.  We use "all in one" cloth diapers for my son and I wish now that I would have for my daughter as well.  Your saving the environment and your pocket not to mention there is more absorbancy and very little chance of diaper rash.  Most people think its more time consuming but really its as easy as throwing in an extra load of laundry.  Good luck!

I LOVED the pampers swadlers the first month or two, it has like a mesh layer in them that seems to pulls the moisture and the poos away from his skin. They are a little more expensive than some but they worked great! After that i tried Luvs, Huggies, Target brand, and Pampers. The only one I had problems with was the generic target brand diapers. He leaked all time and definitely could not put them on over night he would pee through every thing!

When my son was a baby I had to use huggies over night one, because he wet through ALL the time, and actually until he was potty trained I had to use the plastic pants you use to put over clothe diapers over his diapers and training pants just so he wouldn't leak. As he got older I used Parent's Choice from Wal-Mart. And for my daughter now, I tried Parent's Choice again but she leaked right through them, so I've stuck with Pampers, and Luvs, and if I get coupons for Huggies I get those.
