To keep sink drains clean and odor free I periodically pour baking soda into the drain, then white distilled vinegar, the foaming actions cleans the pipes, also if there is a greasy buildup I would follow up with a bunch of dishsoap and hot water which will clean that up with out harming the pipes!

I've really never noticed any odor in my sink drains, but I'm willing to try the baking soda and vinegar thing. I make my household cleaner with that stuff and I think it works great. When I clean my sinks I usually use Vim cream, then I rinse it out, and fill up the sink to the top with hot water. After it cools a bit I unplug it and let it drain. A plumber once told me that the pressure from the hot water helps to clear the drain out.

I had the chance to pick a plumber's brain once.. He said that a dirty sink drain turns his stomach, he can smell it when he walks in the house. He says that if you aren't pouring bleach down your drains, he can TELL. Now he reiterated, you can't just pour gallon after gallon down the drain, it will kill the bacteria in your septic system that is destroying the waste. But he did ask that I occasionally let a little bleach go down the sink drains.

Great suggestion, I look forward to trying this. I hate that smell that the drain can give off. Now I know what to do about it. Thanks!!!!
