My son had the same problem, but no one believed me he was 6 years old and having BM accidents at school, had not gained any weight since his 4year annual exam, when they (Tricare) finally did something. They started with the polyetheolyne glycol at double the adult dose (40lb child) and pediasure. After x-rays as they were sure that he had swallowed a toy or something that was pluging him up. They also had us add fiber to his diet. Fiber one garnola bars are the best, and he can take them to school in his lunch and other kids don't have a clue. It took a couple of years to get him straightened out and at almost 9 he still wets the bed and occasionally has accidents. He is aware of the situation, and gets the bars when he needs them. He knows when he needs more fiber and will ask for it. If your child is old enough to eat garnola bars you might want to try them.

yeah i've had the same problem with my daughter..when we switched to whole milk she was so constipated she would scream bloody murder everytime she went...almost brought me to tears....they introduced me to Pedia-Lax and it says to give one tablespoon to children 2-4 but her ped said to give 1 TEASPOON in the morning and at night before she goes to bed since they are only supposed to drink 3 bottles of milk MAX...along with the juice it helps a whole lot...her stools are still a little hard but she is NEVER scared to pass her bm....i know how heartbreaking it is to her your child in pain and suffer from constipation...to me it's worse than teething.

I think fruits such as pears and apples help with constipation. Banannas aren't a good idea, they can make constipation worse. Try prune juice or cranberry juice. Make sure he also isn't getting to much cheese, another culprit of constipation. The fiber sounds like a good idea. Maybe more liquids in general to keep everything soft. Good luck.

I always gave my children apple juice when they had constipation. It worked well and they didn't mind drinking it. Their doctor also told me to put dark karo syrup in their milk and that can help as well. Both of these worked for my boys, I hope they help yours.

HI, YOU SHOULD GIE HIM SOME COD LIVER OIL...YOU CAN FIND IT AT WALGREENS...BUT I SUGGEST A HEALTH FOOD STORE. THEY WILL HAVE MORE SELECTION AND YOU CAN GET IT IN A FLAVOR. GIVE HIM ONE SPOON EVERY MORNING AND AGAIN AT NIGHT. THIS WILL HELP HIM STAY REGULAR. GOOD LUCK, MICHELLE

Hi my daughter has been constipated and it all began when she had to switch to this whole milk. I mean it was to the point where my baby hated to move her bowels she would clinch her butt cheeks and yell out crying & it would be so hard. So I took her to her pediatrician & he switched her to 2% milk, & that didn't help I thought that maybe she wasn't getting enough veggies, then I thought"ok I have to give this milk time to adjust to her system". But long & behold the same problem she still was yelling & crying & afraid to go because it hurt so bad, so I called her pediatrician & her recommended a G.I.(Gastrologisst) so I made her an appointment a.s.a.p. & we went & her checked her throughly & asked me all that she had eaten & how much. He said that a lot of babies he had saw with the same problem so he told me to get some Miralax a stool softner & to mix it with her milk juice anything she drink & give it to her 1 time a day. And I'm so happy cause my daughter isn't afraid to go, so that's what I can suggest but 1st check with your pediatrician. I've tried it all prune juice,baby suppositories, no bananas cause that binds (clog) them up even more. But I still think its this milk if these people stop giving these cows all these injections of different things & just let them be then our babies wouldn't have these problems I've asked her pediatrician can I change her milk to soy but he said no, so I just continue with my solution then I don't give it to her for a little while, but then the constipation comes back. I hope I was able to help.

My son had the same problem as soon as we came home from the hospital. After messing with his milk which just made it worst I finally got him to see a pedatriction. We had to give him small amounts of prne juice everyday. Only like an ounce or two. Then he was put on a stool soften which is over the counter, called POLYETHLENE GLYCOL. It is white powder which you can mix with his milk or food. It softens the stool enough for him to pass it. Good for kids and not strong enough for adults. I to had used childerns suppostorty's cut in half. We had warmed them up a bit befoe inserting them. Also we was told by the doctors to take a thermator and put vasiline a insert the tip into his bum and try to situlate him to squeeze it out because he didn't want to squeeze. Didn't like doing it but sometime he did poo. Best of luck. Hope it helps.

Try grandma molasses, I solved my daughters problem with constipation. I use a teaspoon of molasses and put it in the milk. Problem solved. Its a miracle natural remedy.

My son suffers from constipation every now and then and the only thing that helps instantly is prune juice and apple juice.

Let him drink a lot of water. Giving him food with fibers like prunes and pears would also be a great help. You can also try papaya if you have one in your area. Avoid constipating fruits like bananas and apple. After trying all of these and still didn't work try using suppository for babies. You can buy that in pharmacies and drug store.

I used to mix about 2 tablespoons full of Karo syrup in my kids' formula bottle & that kept them regular. If that doesn't work after a couple of days, try mixing 2 parts prune juice with 1 part water & give it to them 1 hour after lunch.

Try giving him apple juice. If that does not help then a teaspoon of Karo syrup the dark kind will work.

my daughter has had hard, compacted poops since she was an infant. we tried everything (grape and pear juice, pureed pears and apricots, water, corn syrup in the bottles...EVERYTHING...) Even at 2 she still has issues sometimes. When she was really bad, we used half of a children's suppository. usually, all we had to do was put it in and within minutes she would poop. i think it stimulates the area and lubricates it a bit. If that doesn't happen, she should poop within an hour because of the stuff in the suppository.
I'd have been lost without those things.

My son has the same issue. His ped told me to give him pear juice, it is thicker than apple and tends to work better. I would give him a 4 oz botttle 3 times a day, which worked pretty well. With him eating solids now that doesn't always work, so I have used Karo(MAKE SURE IT IS THE DARK ) syrup mixed in water, which works well. It may take a day or so to see result with the syrup, but when you do it usually is pretty big!

The most common remedy is prune juice. Apple juice works too. Milk & bananas are constipating. Other fruits would be helpful though. You could mix some fiber drink with water & give that to him daily. It tastes good, like orange. I use it while I'm pregnant because I too am constipated.
