Diaper Genie?

Ok, so I am wondering if the diaper genie is worth investing in? does it really work and hold in the smell?? We put our sons diapers in the bathroom trash and the smell is just getting so bad...not to mention i am pregnant so my sense of smell is like times 10. we don't have much money and try to be smart with what we buy. I thought about having a trash can on our porch and just every tim my son had a dirty diaper put it outside...what do you all think? any ideas? should we just buy a diaper genie?

We didn't waste the money for a diaper genie. We bought 2 small trash cans that had a foot pedal to open it. One for the nursery and the other by the pack-n-play in the living room. It has a place to put an air freshener in it to help with the smell. We bought medium trash bags for them and made sure that we hid some bags in the bottom of it so that we didn't have to hunt for another bag when we cleaned the can out. It has worked for us. Our little girl had even learned how to use it and loves to throw her own diapers away. I just hope she feels the same when her little brother arrives.

waste of money- its better to just buy the little powdered bags( in the baby section) and wrap each diaper up and throw it in the trash. I had one with my first child and taking that thing out to empty was the most disgusting smell, Diaper genies are plastic- and everybody know "plastic" picks up smells and enhances them.

thanks! i put a bag outside for now and just take em out there each time. kinda a pain but better than the smel l:D

I didn't like the diaper genie. I tied dirty dipers n a bag and made sure it was taken out at the end of the day.

We found that the Diaper Champ worked tons better then the Diaper Genie. Then as added smell protection i guess you would call it is got the white trash bags that have the little arm and hammer box on it. Plus using the diaper champ you don't have to buy refills. So your saving money there.

I haven't had any problems with my Diaper Genie it holds in the smells as long as it isn't overfilled. The only problem is the really bad smell when you are emptying it. Though you can always get someone else to do that.

The diaper genie does not hold in smells. I had one. With our second we just used the trash. We kept it outside and removed any poop and put it in the toilet. The genie is a waste of money IMO.
