I'm about 34 weeks along I'm having contractions in my lower back no pressure just dule pains. I've been told to laydown and rest but that seems to make it worse... Does anyone have any suggestions on things I can do at home to lessen them?

My midwife told me to do the opposite of what I was doing when they came on. If I was up walking and they started, her advice was to go sit down and rest. If I was resting and they started, I was supposed to get up and walk.

I was also told that if doing the opposite activity did NOT stop them...I was to call their office.

The pain in my lower back was eased by getting on all fours and rocking my hips back and forth. Not real pretty...Husbands tend to make some comments....but DANG it helps!

the rocking usually helps and although it looks funny who cares, you can laugh later. Lots of fluid, and by fluid not pop or coffee, water or cystal light, something along that matter to keep the body hydrated, also try laying down on your left side put a pillow between your legs for support and a pillow rolled behind your back. should ease some of the pain. I went thru that with alll three of my children and had back labor for 2-3 months before delivery. Nothing ever gets rid of the pain, only eases it. Hope it helps.

How have you been feeling?? I was told to drink lots and lots of water...dehydration can actually cause cramping and contractions. Also, what Ink posted is true too...some cramping and contractions are completely normal at this stage, your body is getting ready to have your baby! If your contractions worsen or your water breaks, get to the birthing center! :-)
