Always shop at the end of the season when everything is on clerance. Buy everything larger and build your child's wardrobe for the next year. For example, I purchased designer coats for my sons when it was 90 degrees ourside. I only paid $20 a piece!

i love one-day sales at local major retail stores (sear, jc penny, even macys -- got a few good things there with the door-buster discount/macy's card extra discount, etc.)

for boys clothes, i love clearance racks in burlington coat factory. this year we had 11-yr old boy staying with us for the holidays(my husband's older son) and we had to buy him new wardrobe (because his mother sent her son cross country for 3 weeks with 4 t-shirts, 2 of which were too small, 2 pairs of shorts & swimming shorts that were dirty & ripped, 2 pairs of shoes (well one was bought by his grandmother right before the trip or it would have been 1 pair) and 2 pairs of socks). we got him at least 3 pairs of jeans, several tshirts, long-sleeve shirts, dress pants and 2 hoodies for under $200 because it was all on clearance racks and was under $15 per item. mind you the boy loves name brands so it was all billabong and rockawear and stuff like that. Burlington's regular racks are quite expensive (and let's not even discuss baby depot), but their clearance racks are pretty good for girls and boys, especially for casual wear. also, check out marshalls clearance racks, they quite often have good stuff for boys, girls and even men (women i don't know since i only buy tshirts & yoga pants there, regular pants are too short for me). my husband always manages to find great stuff and i just bought some good quality baby stuff -- bibs, blankets, bedding ($39 instead of $109 regular price) on clearance. the trick with these stores is to go there often and not look for anything in particular, but if u frequent them once a week/2 weeks (i would find out their shipment dates), u can get the most amazing things for a very reasonable price.

I bought my daughter's school clothes on ebay this year. I was able to get her about 10 different outfits and a couple of dresses that were all brand for about $50 including shipping. I have found that's it's easy to get girl clothes at bargin rates and in lots but it's really difficult to find boys clothes the same way. Anyone else have this problem?
