I am a single mother of 2..my son is 6 and my daughter is 5...I am also currently laid off from my job of 2 years. I buy mostly generic foods (except for fresh meat products). They are generally less expensive than the name brand, and my kids cannot tell the difference. I also buy paper products in bulk...they may be a little more expensive than buying product one at a time, but in the long run it acutally saves me money. Coupons are always a plus...there are many websites that offer coupons as well as the papers. Some grocery stores also offer a "savers card"...those also save money on advertised products.
