I lost my job about a month ago and the money is starting to run low-out. I haven't ever been in this situation and now I don't know what to do. I can't pay the bills, food is scarce. I've called some places to try to get assistance and I get the rudest, I don't give a crap attitudes from people. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do? I've filed for unemployment, which hasn't kicked in yet, I feel so lost!

Craig's list is great for advertising things like child care because poeple who need it fast and for not too much look there. You can also require that they send food with them. Also, you may have to stand in lines and deal with grumpy people, but if you have to, you have to. You can start with WIC, that will provide cereal, milk, cheese, eggs, juice, and peanut butter for your kids. Also, especially since you don't have unemployment coming in yet, go stand in line and wait all day, but get food stamps. That way you can claim no income, (because you don't have any) get in the system, and when you start getting your unemployment checks, you're already getting help. I know it's going around the system a little but when families need it, they need it. Also, don't get discouraged or depressed because that makes you not able to confront what you have to deal with. TAKE HEART!

I do child care in my home for 2 families, and believe me, not all moms will stay at home with their kids. Crazy, I know! I make about $300/week and take on 3 kids. Not an ideal job at times, but it works and I'm home with my kids, saving myself $300/week in child care! I bet if you put an ad out in the paper, you'll get many calls. I did daycare for 5 years now, and have never been out of kids. I chose to drop down to 3 kids now.

Your saying in home child care? I haven't thought about that but that would be a great Idea. My only concern with that is, if there are other moms like me with no work, we are keeping our kids at home.

Have you thought about taking in a family for child care? You can take in one family, regardless on the number of kids in it, without getting licensed by the state. Depending on where you live, but you could bring in an average $300 week?? Just an idea.
