Homemade Carpet Cleaner?

I would like to clean my carpet using a homemade carpet cleaner that does not contain any harsh chemicals. Years ago, I remember about hearing about one of these you can make at home...possibly using kitchen ingredients. I have tan carpet, and it is newer, so I don't want to possibly damage the color. Does anyone know of any good recipes that might help save money on carpet cleaner?

Squeeze the juice of 1 lemon into a spray bottle, then fill the rest with vinegar. Sprinkle baking soda onto soiled areas of carpet then spray lemon and vinegar mix over bking soda. You will get a bubbling mixture. Let soak for a few minutes then dab off with damp cloth. Let dry and then vaccuum.

Check the second link too. It uses vinegar.

Combine 1/4 cup (60ml) liquid dishwashing soap, 1/2 cup warm water and 5 drops lavender essential oil in a large bowl. Use an electric mixer to beat them into a stiff foam.

Use a damp sponge to rub the foam cleaner into soiled areas, then remove with a damp cloth. Repeat as necessary. Let the carpet dry, then vacuum.
