My first was due on the 6th, on the 10th we went in for a "stress test" and the responces was it would be another week, with a baby that weighed 6-7 pounds. On the 12th, I went in with a pain on my hip, and asked for the ob nurses to move the baby's head off of my hip. They checked me in, and discovered I was dilated to 7cm, then insisted that I stay and not go back home to get my bag;) 5 hours later after a Csection out came nearly 10 pound baby! so you just don't know what you get-- until the baby is here!!!

With my first child I was 2wks overdue when dr. tried to induce labor. By all means-it did not work. A week later, after lots of walking and loads of fluids went back into to the dr. to find out I was dialated 6 centimeters and and barely had contractions. My son, Gunner was in perfect health and we were able to go home within 24hrs. Trust me the wait is worth it all!!

I went almost a month over. My son's due date was December 15th and he was born January 10th! But I was high risk because of my blood pressure and I was pre-enclamptic so my doctor refused to induce me (Potocin can do harm if not careful). Right before Christmas I was getting antsy and my doctor just told me to go for a walk every night. Nothing strenuous, and to make sure I had a walking buddy just in case :) So I walked and walked and walked (about 1 mile every night after dinner) and it actually helped me to start dilating! My contractions started January 9th at about 7pm and I delivered Joshua at 5:19am the next morning!

I wouldn't push it. As long as the baby and Mommy are okay, just walk. It does no harm to either of you and it is good for you! They will come when they are ready. Good luck!

I was over due by 10 days before they induced and then had to have c-section. I know what you are going threw keep your head up you will have your baby soon enough.

[deleted account]

lol that's what happens about now - its so that you don't care what you have to do you just want the baby out! I have three children and was 2 weeks late with my 1st and 3rd and one week with number two. Don't stress about it 40 weeks is just the average the medical profession takes. Peoples gestation varies to within a couple of weeks either side just the same as peoples indiviual cycles can vary. Either way it won't be long now. No matter how it feels to you now you won't be pregnant forever : )

I only went two days past my due date.
Just be patient, I anxiously waited to go into labor five weeks before I was actually due, and it didn't help any. ;)
Your baby will be here soon enough.

I know it gets hard to get through those last few days- what helped me was thinking that my baby would come when ready- and who's to say a baby is late or early- doctors now are saying you are due at 37 weeks but many natural childbirth educators teach that it is normal to go 41 weeks- Well best of luck with your new baby

  Hi Autmn,
Don`t wish to go into labour early....things can happen with their lungs, low birth weight, bowl and kidney probs....ect....I went 17 day over with my first and the baby DOUBLES their weight in the last month....so my son wound up weighing 11lbs and was 231/2inches long....he broke his collar bone coming out....they`re in there 40 weeks for a good reason and now adays , mostly Dr`s don`t let you get past 41 weeks.....Its hard to wait....but you`ll forget all about it all the second you see, hold, smell, and breastfeed your baby ƸӜƷ Tanya ƸӜƷ

Must get to @ LEAST 37 weeks, for the sake of your babies lungs, kidneys, extremeley important organs, and developmental areas.....so if you`re uncomfortable, sick of being preg. ect....just know that just a coup[le of weeks can make a life or death situation.....not woth it at all.  (:  ƸӜƷ

i was almost 42 weeks when i had my c-section........nothing wrong with being over due...ther doctors wont let you go past 42 weeks anyways...so you will either go into labour yourself....or be induced...your baby will be fine either way.

A great number of first pregnancies go overdue. Get plenty of rest since this is your first and you don't have to chase another child around. It's awful, I know. Also, everything they tell you to do to bring on labout does not work. You will go when you are ready. I have had 5 and I have not gone once naturally. Induced with every one. I have found out that they don't come down and press on the cervix enough to get labour going for me. Once they get me into labour though, it's quick and easy for me. Bare with it and go with the flow. Stay relaxed and you'll have a great labour. Good luck and Congratulations!

I think everyone is different. I was induced at 42 weeks with my first and 41 with my second. Waiting to see what happens with this one! I think being active helps. I know it's super hard, but I would also suggest being patient and not in a rush to induce if possible. Just more natural that way. The baby knows when it's ready.

My first was 11 days late, my second was 9 days late (and they were both induced), and I'm guessing that the vast majority of pregnancies go past due. The due date is just an estimate, really. My last was born 3 days before the due date, but that was only because the OB/GYN was nice enough to induce before the due date since he was already almost 8 pounds at that point, and she knew I had a history of being really overdue.

Due to my failing health, I had to have my daughter induced ON her due date. My water had sprung a leak but didnt fully break for over two days! I was having gullbladder attacks left and right and they said I wass facing liver failure.
She wouldve held in there another week if she could...
on the other hand, my son was a week early and matched his sister's size and weight.

I just had a baby on sept 1. I however was 11 days over due. I due on August 21st, i went into the hospital on August 31 and they started to induce me by the next day they were breaking my water for me. just be patinet (spelling?) and your baby will come. I know alot of people that were overdue with their first child. However you can try to put yourself into labor unless you are like me and try everything and nothing happens

I went to 40 weeks 5 days with my first She was 10 lbs 4 oz and 22 1/2 inches long and ended up being born by emergecny c section ,

34 weeks with my 2nd I was induced at what docs thought was 37 weeks due to having had a large baby previously and wanting to go VBAC they did ultrasound and determined my son to already be at 7 lbs so they stripped membranes and 5 days later I had him . After he was born they ran tests on him and determined that he was only 34 weeks gestational age not 37 like we thought. I had him by successful VBAC with no meds!!

, 41 weeks with my 3rd My 3rd was also successful VBAC with no meds other than a shot of stadol in the IV and she was 9 lbs 5 oz and 20 1/2 inches.

and delivered on my due date with my 4th who also ended up being a c section (like my first) because the stupid docs didnt realize my water had broke 2 days earlier when I tried to tell them apparently it was a small leak but was enough to soak my pants but not show up on their strip tests. Well they believed me when it finished breaking 2 days later and I developed a fever because infection was setting in and then the babys heartrate kept decelling so they took me for emergency c section and the baby was born with a fever and not breathing. She is fine now but I shoudl have sued becuase we both could have lost our lives from infection..

I was seven days late and they educed because my son was huge. I ended up having a C-section. Don't worry, my husband and I are really tall, so our son was going to be big anyway.

10lbs 3oz, 22.5 inches long

[deleted account]

I was 3days but the doctors were saying how everything was ok and he could stay HOWEVER I was so big I told them he's coming with or without their help. Guess I freakd them cus they kept me. 10hours later I started to deliver only to have him turn and move back. He came via C-section the next morning weighn in at 9pounds 5.8ounces. And they wanted me to wait!? pfft

I was induced 2 and a half weeks late with my first and my second would have gone over too but i got induced on my due date because I had too much fluid it is very common, I know it sucks tho

[deleted account]

I was 2 weeks late with my son. I refused to be induced... I figured when he was done cookin' he would pop out. I had a fight with my dr the morning I went into labor. She said he ws 10 lbs and I needed to be induced. I asked for another dr in the practice and she let me go home. I went into labor that afternoon... he was 7 lbs 1 oz... I told her he wasn't a 10 pounder! I went a week late with my daughter. Be patient - you are right, your life will completely change once he is here!

I went 2 1/2 weeks past my due date and I questioned the dr. about it. They said it is nothing uncommon, nothing to worry about. It was my first baby and she came out at 10 lbs and 23 1/2 inches long, but healthy

[deleted account]

I know it's tough, those last weeks feel like they drag on forever. Depending on your dr, you may be able to schedule a delivery. My first two drs didnt believe in "inducing" they thought my body would know when it was ready. Consequently, I went 43 weeks and 46 weeks with my two oldest. My Youngest was two days over because they induced. Doc said if we would have waited for him to come on his own, he would have been close to 11 lbs. My suggestion would be to talk to your dr if you are concerned and see if he/she is amenable to getting the ball rolling.

I was two days overdue... and just gave birth to our baby girl on Sept 24.

I know the feeling when I was getting closer to my due date. It was pretty exciting but I was getting impatient too. I wanted to meet our girl Callie so badly!

All I can tell you is to just hang on the best you can, and in the end it will be worth it once you have that beautiful angel in your arms crying for the first time.

Good luck! :)

Twice, the first was three weeks overdue but now days they do not let you go that far over, they will induce you with a gel sponge and I had that done ten years ago with my second. They do not want you to go too far over it is not good for the baby or you, the procedure may have changed it seems to every few years.
Good luck

I was six days late with my first, but with my second the doctor let me go three weeks over before inducing. This is NOT common. Doctors will generally not let you go too long. Just hand in there, try to stay relaxed. The grand entrance is worth the wait! Best of luck to you.

I went forty one weeks with my first son, and I wasn't dialated at all when I had my membranes stripped. My water broke that same evening, but I had to be given Pitocin to start labor. My only advice is try to be patient and let your body decide when it is time to start labor. Good luck!
