I also do the movies, stickers, coloring, & toys bit. But what I find that keeps my little ones happiest the longest in interacting with them. Point out things you pass, or ask them to point things out, sing together, make up stories, or if they are really little do simple things like peek-a-boo in the mirror.

When I was preparing for a long trip with three small children, a mom once recommended I go to the dollar store and stock up on all sorts of small toys, books, stickers and whatnot. She further recommended wrapping them all up and doling them out through the trip. Sort of the excitement of opening presents and new toys periodically through the trip. My kids travel well so I never tried it, but it seemed like it would keep them occupied. Good luck!

Movies, if you don't have a DVD player in the car buy or rent one and bring tons of movies from the 30 minute to the longer full length movies. Chances are the will keep his attention, since he doesn't have anything else to do. Make sure it's a good quality system, you don't want it to stop playing a movie in the middle of the trip. Have lots of stuff for him to do, toys, books, snacks, juice, favorite bed time bear or blanket. If he still takes a pacifier, have plenty on hand. Get out and stretch at least every three hours, and let him run for at least 10 - 15 minutes each time you stop. Make sure you leave time in your schedule for unscheduled stops. You may want to pick up some disposable wash clothes and keep them in the car, just in case you have a big mess. Keep his stuff inside the car and where it is all easy to access and make sure you know where it all is.

We took an 18 hour car ride one way with a 2 year old, and 8 month old, and a 6 year old this summer. It was very long, but we I brought every kids movie we have with us. I don't think I could have done that trip without those movies. Definitely a must.

I hope this helps.

I always tried to have some sort of coloring book along. Something they can scribble all over. For long car rides, songs are great and invest in a portable DVD player and a couple of movies, TV shows or sing alongs. (Snacks are a must, too!) Good luck!

I know you may have already tried this but what about making a copy of his favorite shows and let him watch them it works for my grandson but it has to be his favorite shows or we are in trouble
