Im sorry to say but with this day and age I have to go to thirft stores. Its unfortunate I can't buy my children the "real deal," but thirft stores to me have gently used clothes that some really aren't that bad! My dh loves going too. He 'll go to accompany me, but I found some really good deals today on name brand clothing at the thirft store. Two bags full of clothes everything was half price as it is. for 26 dollars! I got some CDs not the bad condition (8) then some movies in awesome condition (3) then the rest clothes due to our household having 5 children!! All in all- I love Thirft Stores!

The only things I will not buy from the thrift stores or yardsales are used underwear or shoes. I know they are clean, but the thought of wearing underwear that someone else has worn just creeps me out! And the shoes don't fit right because someone else has worn them and they are stretched to fit their feet.

In the UK we have Charity Shops but they don't compare to Thrift Stores - our Charity shops tend to be a touch expensive! I have been to the USA a couple of times and found some real bargains and lots of choice in Thrift stores.

I look forward to visiting Thrift stores again, next time I'm in the USA - don't know when that will be. Also love the Fleamarket! Great stuff!

I grew up poor going to swap meets, garage sales, thrift stores, and getting hand me downs. I love it!!! Even though my Husband makes a good living for us and we can afford to buy where ever I always choose my thrift stores first. Love to go searching for treasures!!!

Thrift shoping can be really fun and you can find good deals too. I had to get my yougest child some swim trunks for the summer and went to one and got 2 pairs of trunks, 3 pairs shorts and 2 shirts all for 12 bucks that was a great deal.

As a single parent, thrift stores at 1/2 price are even out of my budget. I have bought almost all of my quickly growing son's clothes off of Craigslist in big boxes or bags for next to nothing. Most times I end up paying less than a dollar an item for good clothes.

I love thrift stores. When I got pregnant with my third child, 14 years after my second, I didn't have anything. I told my husband we should buy as much from thrift stores as we can since this was our last baby. We saved so much. I still buy her clothes and some toys from our local children's thrift store. I also can sell clothes back to them when she outgrows them and use the credit to buy more.

I love thrift stores. I also have 5 children so it's great when you can find deals. Recently I have found an almost new pair of Apple Bottom jeans for $8!! Originally $75 a pair!
I also found a pair of old navy jeans, great condition for $6.50 and a Tommy Hilfigger sports jacket for $6...so happy that I found these for myself without having to pay a fortune. Because I will not pay the original prices.. The thrift store has to be clean when I walk in, it can't be filthy...know what I mean?

I don't like the thrift stores in my area. The clothing in them is often junk and not well cared for. A lot of the clothes have holes or are extremely worn.

I do like the consignment stores though. Although most are for children.

I couldn't survive without our neighborhood Goodwill. My son destroys his clothes faster than I can buy them. Throwing out a $20 shirt hurts a whole bunch more than tossing a $2 shirt. I also take full advantage of Military Day and Senior Citizen Day discounts.

Thrift stores and consignment shops can have some great deals! It definitely takes a little extra time to find the good quality stuff, but always worth it when you find that gem!

I love thrift and resale shops! With 2 growing boys, it's a life saver. I also love Ebay. I was able to reoutfit both boys for summer (12 pairs of shorts for one and 9 for the other), plus replace the older ones jeans (7 pairs) for under $100 and all of them almost brand new, a good portion still with tags. You just have to pay attention to shipping - add then into what you want to pay total when you set your max bid.

I also have a resale shop in my neighborhood that I'll take my boys' clothes to when they get too small (as long as they're still in good condition). I then get credit to buy replacement items. :)

Don't be sorry to say! I love thrift stores! At least 99 % of the things on my closet came from thrift stores and the 1% that didn't was on clearance! All of my kids clothes came from thrift stores and kid's consignment sales (which are really big deals around here). My kids wear name brands too; Gymboree, Janie and Jack, Tea, Hannah Anderson, and lots of boutique.

I adore thrift stores. I actually was in one a few months ago, and picked up this awesome black hobo style bag (I am using it as a "dress up" diaper bag... turns out it's a 300$ designer bag from Talbots!

Love thrift stores. You never know what you are going to find. I especially love Goodwill. I too have 5 children (only 2 left at home) and had to shop thrift stores. My kids would have rather had more clothes than brand new clothes. :) I even found a couple of prom dresses for only a couple of dollars compared to hundreds of dollars. A little bit of cleaning and they were gorgeous.

Thrift stores are Great! Not only do kids grow really fast, but sometimes they change their taste in clothes fast as well, my boy goes through jeans super fast, if we didnt thrift shop the poor kid wouldnt have enough pants! We go for pants, dresses for my girl, and shirts to! Thrift store are a real life saver! Not only do we get clothes, i shop for myself there to, but the stores usually have lots of crafty stuff for the kids, its also a good place to get dolls, for far less than department and toy stores!

I guess I would say love em' and hate em'. Love them for the good deals you can find that really are worth the trip. But hate em' because you have to search through so much to find that golden nugget.

we shop Giant Eagle all the time for our groceries....and when we take my mom shopping, we take her to Giant Eagle and use our card for her sales...that way we get the fuel perks since she doesn't have a vehicle!
And I won't buy used bathing suits either.

Thrift stores can be a good place to find inexpensive clothing for children, but as Karen mentioned above, make certain to inspect the items carefully to see if they are damaged or stained badly. I also agree with Karen on the point of buying used underwear and shoes, also swimsuits. Won't buy those either. Another great place to shop are resale shops. And Kmart has some wonderful sales and some regular priced children's clothing, 2.88 for toddler shirts and pants. a real bargain, plus if you have a rewards card for Kmart and Sears you earn points which translate to dollars off your purchase. I cleaned up not to long ago there, shopping sales and cashing in my points. Plus if youre in an area with a Giant Eagle, buy the gift cards there and earn free gas. Am always looking for a way to save.

We always shop the thrift stores! Always finding some great deals. I got over $100 worth of yarn not to long ago for about $15! You never know what you will find in them. You do have to inspect the clothes closely though, for rips and stains that won't come out, but we've found some nice ones. We've also gotten videos and dvds and some books. Always looking for toys for the playroom for the grandkids. We do a lot of yardsales also.
It's hard with gas prices they way the are today and everything is costing more and the paychecks aren't compensating for the rise in prices elsewhere

We called them Charity shops in the UK. I've used them but to be honest I find them expensive. They often sell stuff originally marketed from discount shops and the items were cheaper when they were NEW!! I much prefer "Jumble sales" when there is a good old rummage at an event taking place at a certain time in a certain place. Also "Car Boot sales" where you go to a location and people are selling stuff from their car boots! I think car boots are called "trunks" in the US.

Love Thrift Stores!!!! I get so much there. My daughters school uniforms run 12.99-20.00, and I can get them for usually a few dollars.

i love second hand stores, kids grow so fast so buying clothes cheap is fantastic. all the clothes need are a good wash and they are ready to go.
i also see it as recycling, i take back the clothes my kids have grown out of to buy more they will fit into at less then half the cost.
i prefer going to thrift shops before having to buy brand new.
sometimes you find great bargains, just the other day i picked up a BEN 10 thick winter coat for my 7yr old for just $7, normally they would sell for around $30 brand new.
there is nothing wrong with pre loved items, as they say, one mans rubbish is another man treasure.

Great bargin hunting.
I see nothing wrong with buying from thief stores especially children clothing. they out grow them so fast that they look new or tags still on them.
Also look for little shops that are not shopped as much you will be surprised at what you fine. There is a couple of them in my area and there are different days that they sell all kids clothing for $1.00 each and have color of the day or week that those items are half price.
Plus mom don't forget to look for your self too. Check the jewelry especial for gold pieces. If it is not to high in price buy it then take it to a place that they buy gold.
Also be on the look for designer items too. I have picked up coach handbags for no more them $5.00.
Plus on another up side your are not just shopping smarter you are also being green.
I have to say I love thrift stores too
