I too comparison shop, buy in bulk where possible, buy cheaper brands when doesn't matter so much for quality of product i.e. gladwrap, paper towels. This even works now that I gravitate towards organic/chemical free products more & more due to my daughters' condition; I justify the 'extra' money (like for making our own bread) as it being worth it - & I STILL stick to our monthly budget (monthly budget is also great, I just adjust amount to spend each week, when needed & include takeaways, bulk meat from meat shop, lots of fruit & veges in my total amount.) I also do a bigger shop 1st week of the month where I buy the 'non-essentials' we haven't been able to afford near the end of the month; this works well for me) A budget is ESSENTIAL!
