Brandi, thanks for posting the idea of a homemade detergent. I have found a couple of recipes that I will try. I would never have thought of making my own before your post.

Aren't any of you scared of using this on your almost 1000 dollar HE washers? Someone who actually has used this for any length of time in their expensive washing mashine please let me know what it does. I have never spent this kind of money on anything in my whole house so I am a little scared.

I found a recipe everyone!! im not sure if its the same as Brandi's, but im going to try it out!
homemade laundry soap!
4 cups hot water
1 fels-naptha soap bare(can also use ivory, sunlight, or an organic and soft on babys skin soap like Rocky Mountain, natural baby)
1 cup washing soda
1/2 cup borax
10-15 drops essential oils (lavendar, rosemary, tea tree etc..)
1. grate bar of soap and add to saucepan with 4 cups hot water, stir continually over med heat until soap dissolves and melts
2. fill 5 gallon bucket half full of hot water, add makted soap, washing soda, borax, and any essential oil of your choice.
3. fill bucket to top with more hot water, stir. cover and let stand overnight to thicken.
4.Stir before each use.
5. recycle one of your old plastic (with measuring lid) laundry soap containers (first clean thouroughly) fill half of pre-made soap mix, and fill th erest with room temp water. shake before each use(will gel)
yields 10 gallons of soap!!
happy soap making everyone :)
