Natural Miscarriage...How long before it starts?

I was told at 9 weeks that my baby is no longer developing...it never developed right from the beginning. I bled from 5-8 weeks, but the baby is still inside and I am not bleeding or anything. I really plan to avoid surgery at all costs...or medicine because of horrible side effects. I am now at what would have been 13 weeks...and this wait is killer. How long after your diagnosis did you miscarry if you chose to do it naturally?

So Sorry for your loss. With my first pregnancy I miscarried at 9w2d, I wanted my body to pass it natually. At what would have been 15w6d I still hadn't passed it and had to have an emergency D&C because I had a horrible infection. I ended up loosing a lot of blood and having to have a transfusion on the operating table. Afterwards I was on medication for 6 weeks before the infection was finally gone from my body. Looking back I wish I had taken the medication to induce the miscarriage to begin with instead of dragging it out over the next 12 weeks. The sooner you are able to pass all of the tissue the sooner you can really start greiving and allow the healing process to start.

2-6 weeks is the normal amount of of time to naturally miscarry.
By my calculation it s been 4(?) weeks for you, once you reach 6 weeks i really think you need to see your doctor to discuss ALL your options. If you wait to long and the 'contents' become septic(infected), it can be fatal to you and ruin your uterus. One of the options I was given (with my latest miscarriage) was to have a cathiter (?) but into my cervix to make my body expel it and the 'contents'.

M(iscarriage) 1 was immediately- 2 weeks.
M2 was 3-4 weeks.(i had a uterine evacuation with this one, but my cervix was open and the OBGYN said that my was body had been ready to expel everything.
M3 was 4 weeks. Baby died at 8w miscarried at 12w.

I went on to pass the baby at 15 weeks. I actually was overseas visiting my husband (he was deployed to Japan) and went in to full on labor like with my daughter. With my daughter I hemorrhaged, and after about 8 hours of 'laboring' with the miscarriage, I had lost so much blood that we went to a hospital. They helped pull the baby the rest of the way out, and I hemorrhaged a lot. I really think either I have a uterine issue (as to why I hemorrhaged with both pregnancies) or it was due to taking progesterone for 6 weeks trying to stay pregnant before we lost the baby (because it increases your lining, thus increasing complications if you do in fact miscarry. It has been over two years, and we haven't been able to get pregnant again. They can't find a reason why, but I often wonder if the hemorrhaging has a lot to do with it.

I found out at 10w 1 day that my baby had passed at 9w 4days..I had a second opinion to be sure and once the fact that there was no heart beat was confirmed I decided to have the miscarriage naturally (better for your body to do it naturally-Lord willing!). FROM ALL THE POSTS I READ IT SEEMED LIKE THE MISCARRIAGE HAPPENED FOR PEOPLE 3-4 WEEKS FROM THE DEATH OF THE BABY..SURE ENOUGH-I waited three and 1/2 weeks before I started seeing a sm streak of blood, practically nothing..that day I started taking BLUE COHOSH ( liquid form, comes in an eyedropper like bottle that I bought at Clarks Nutrition). Blue cohosh is a herb that helps naturally contract your uterus( a friend/widwife recommended it). I took two dropper fulls every hr or two for about 4-6 hrs and three days latter I had the miscarriage. It was extremely painful! More painful than giving birth to my now 2yr old son. I had contractions from 11am till 7pm--Bt I passed the sac (was actually able to see the pinky size sweet baby body) and then continued to bleed for about 10 days after like a heavy period and the last five days I took methergine to make sure my uterus was cleaned out completely. I am so sorry for your loss! Remember that your child is in heaven with Jesus and one day if you confess Jesus as your Lord and savior you too will see your sweet angel!

I was actually wondering the same thing, I found out yesterday that my baby had quit growing at 7 weeks and has no heartbeat, I would be 10 weeks now. I don't want to do a D and C because it just feels wrong but I also don't want to wait weeks to deliver my baby either :( I plan to have my baby buried in a cemetery with other lost little angels and honestly I want it just to be over, knowing that my baby has passed and still carrying it just breaks my heart

I was told i was about 5 weeks. Started having spotting. Went to the doc right away. My blood test said my hcg #s were rising. 4 days later real bad cramping. Pain i hadent felt since i gave birth to my daughter, who is now 7. The next day the pain was there again. Mind you my spotting was still light, i couldnt believe the pain. Went to the er, had a u.s. that showed there was nothing to see anywhere. Still bleeding 7 days later. I think i miscarried, i havent passed any clots though. Shouldnt my spotting become a lot heavier?

12/23/2013 Woke up around 3:45 am and felt like I had to go to the restroom as I walk to the restroom I felt something come out and hit the floor I stop to look and it was a huge blood clog. I grab toilet paper to pick up cause I wanted to see what it was. As I stood in the restroom the bleeding wouldn't stop. So I drove myself to the hospital. They did and ultrasound. Later the doctor came in to tell me they were going to admit me because I was having a miscarriage. Apparently the baby had no heartbeat and my body was trying to dispose of it. I was 5 mths into my pregnancy and they told me it was a baby of 10 wks old. I had miss an appointment the Tuesdays before it happened. If I would of gone I'm sure the doctor would of seen it. They had to give me medication to help my body contract because it really wasn't. I didn't feel pain and when I did I would pass a lot of blood tissue and the pain would go away. The second time I was in pain I felt like I had to sit down. I couldn't lay anymore and so they had me sitting down on a portable toilet when I felt my baby pass. I saw my baby, still in the sack with the placenta attach to it. I was shock. I just sat there lost when the nurse came in. I took one more look at it before she took it away and I just sat there and cried my eyes out. Since then ive had a little bit of bleeding and mild cramps that are bearable. Its really had for me to accept, being a mom of 3. So I totally understand your pain. Give you body time to heal for its a written fact that when you miscarriage one the 2nd or 3rd is most likely to end the same way. Only god knows why things happen for a reason. Just know that know you have an angel watching over you. And that one day you will meet them. Weather its in this life or the next your baby is in heaven with god.

I'm wondering how this turned out for you. I found out 3.5 weeks ago of the loss, but the baby had already been gone for 4 weeks according to the measurements. So, the baby has been gone for over 7 weeks. I really want to pass naturally and my doctor has not expressed any concern. He said I can wait it out and my body will take care of things.

Lexi- I'm sorry about your loss. I had a miscarriage 2 summers ago, I thought I was 9.5 weeks, and we had gone for the 1st ultra sound at 6- there was a heart beat, but at that 9 week visit, they could not find it, and the baby had stopped growing right after the ultrasound. My doctors did give me a choice, but they were also concerned becasue the ultrasound did not show that anything was progressing for my body to naturally miscarry.

I hope you are well and recovering. My prayers go out to you.

Lexie, so sorry for your loss. The waiting must have been horrible! So happy to hear you didn't have any infection, hope everything is going better for you.

I was checked weekly for infection. I never showed any signs. I finally miscarried 5 weeks after diagnosis. Finally ready to move on.

I always started bleeding and would pass it with in 12 hours! You need to go to the doctor and have that feturs removed! You are putting your self at severe risk for infection and many other things. I don't see the effects of medications or surgery being worse then carrying around a dead fetus inside your womb!

Hi Lexi, I agree with Anastacia, I would discuss my options with the doc to avoid infection.
