Thinking of going off my meds

[deleted account] ( 9 moms have responded )

I don't feel they're working, my MD is inaccessible, and I feel "messed up" lately. I've been thinking of SLOWLY weaning off the meds and seeing what life is like without them. I've been on them for so long, I don't remember. What do you think? I hate feeling "drugged", especially with small children in my care.

I went off my meds in October because I was becomming depressed over weight gain (i was on symbyax). THen i got pregnant in January. I havent been on meds since Oct. but they only reason why i think im stable latley is because of the pregnancy hormones leveling me out. I think i may go back on the meds after i give birth as long as its safe to breastfeed. I suggest you stay on your meds and try some other things to help balance you out as well as the meds. They say eating healthier and exersizing helps dramatically. Give it a shot.

Don't do it!! I have known that I was bipolar for 16 years now and it has been a constant battle. It does get discouraging but you have to stick with the meds. When I got off of mine, everything was fine at first, then it all came crashing down. I almost lost my marriage, and I lost all of my friends. Please don't stop taking them. Stay on your doctor about switching them up to find the right ones.

Don't do it! At first, you may be ookay, but eventually, you get worse. I almost lost my marriage when I went off of mine. It just takes time to get the right combinations.

I have actually gotten an appt for a whole new facility (MD, therapist, etc) that I'm familiar with because of my daughter being a patient there. I will go on Monday afternoon. I'm staying with the meds till I talk to someone there. I've been assured they are much more accessible. I'm just a little leery of "conflict of interest", but I'll give it a try! Thanks!

I was diagnosed with bipolar about 3 years ago. I tried to end my life in 2007 and felt suicidal sept. 2008 I have spent 8 months in hospital. I saw people come in time and time again because they had gone off their meds then went into a downward spiral. Please don't go off your meds, especially because you feel good. You may be feeling good because of the meds. At least wait until you see someone. Maybe you can find a mental health phone line where you can talk to a nurse. I am a nurse, but I don't know you well enough to give advice. But whatever you do - stay on your meds for now.

Yeah I'm still waiting on getting a new one, mine up and left and didn't tell anyone where he was going.. I hope you're fine though it does feel nice when your off them though, but its best to stay on until you do get better help on the issues. :)

I have been going back and forth all day in my head. I'm not so dizzy and out of it, so I will stay on the meds for now and just switch psychiatrists to someone who is more accessible. I feel kinda bad because I finally gained a rapport with the current one, but like I said he's only in the local office Tues afternoon and the office won't page him or anything-it's like he's a ghost when he leaves the local area.

If you have had suicidal thoughts before I highly recommend you stay on your meds if you feel so drugged by taken them, I suggest you go to a doctor or psychiatrist to get them changed to something more level for you to handle. I'm on Lamotrigine but only because of my bipolar and my epilepsy. They first subscribed ceroquil, but it wasn't helping me at all.

I hope this is some help for you.

i'm thinking that with no comment, it's a go ahead with the weaning off the meds. I'm kinda scared of going off the antidepressant, i've been suicidal before and i have no one to keep tabs on me, so to say, so I'm just taking a very deep breath right now.
