Me and my husband have a biological 3yr old son and were asked to adopt a 9 yr old boy whos mother and father will lose rights to him and his other siblings in about a month. His other siblings have all been adopted already and no one wants this boy because he's older and I believe has ADHD. Is this a good idea? We'd love to take him in, but unsure of how our 3yr old, Zachary, will adjust. Zach's a momma's boy all the way and of course isn't into sharing his toys or me. Any advice would be a great help, thank you.

I am all for giving kids a home. I have and adopted daughter with ADHD and she is 12. She takes her med in the mornig to help her with her concentration, without it she is like a car without brakes. I would ask if you could keep the boy for a few weekends to see how he fits with your family and make sure the boys get along with each other. This will give him something to look forward too, and it gives you time to test the waters. I am always concerned when you mix older kids with younger kids. The kids in the system are in it because of severe neglect or drugs. This 9 year old maybe 9 but he maybe emotionally 5 or 6. I am a TFC Foster Home. I hope this helps! Blessings!
