How do I get my 22month son to STOP Hitting?!

When you tell him "no" he'll hit you. If he's frustrated, he'll hit you. If he's frustrated or doesn't get his way, he'll go find something to throw. I've put him in his room for timeout and he has ran out of his room to find me so he can hit me! In desperation I smacked his diaper clad bottom to make him stop. Big surprise that didn't work. He doesn't talk very well but he does communicate really well with pointing and trying to make sounds with his sign language. I know the lack of speach is some of the problem. But there's got to be a way for him to show his frustration another way.
Our older son never did this. I feel like I'm in a losing battle! Please help.

Mine did this! It wasnt my boy but it should still work but waht i did when I spanked her an she hit me or she hit me n general but i just kept hitting her until i won. I mean i didnt like hit her hard but hard enough for her to realize that its wrong an i would say when i was popping her that it was wrong to hit mommy. But i made sure i didnt hit her on the diaper bc they dont feel ne thing like that. Hope this helps
