Wiping themselves when they're done?

I taught my 4 yr old, and I bought flushable wet wipes too- they are probably more help than anything!

Kandos helped a lot. He has his own bathroom so he had his own little wipes, hand wash, and hand towels :)

Well, my son is now 5 & he still asks for my help. Boys have a harder time getting it all wiped up properly so that their bums won't hurt. So, I started getting wipes for my son. I sit them by the toilet so he can reach them easily & he seems to do pretty well. I always leave a stool nearby & make sure he can reach the towel & soap or sanitizer so that he's able to clean his hands by himself as well. You want to nudge them to start using their reasoning skills & learn to do things on their own.
I had to tell my son to use the wipes to get all the gunk off and a small piece of tp to dry his bum so he will be dry. I tell him he's such a big boy & I'm so proud of him & he gets so happy for something so small like that. He does so much better & it's a big headache relief not to have your child scream a million times that he's done & needs you to wipe his butt...lol! I sure hope it helps...

yea my son is 4yrs old and he yells for me or just pulls up his pants. He will wipe sometimes also. I bought him wet wipes the flushable ones to make it easier for him. He likes those better than tp because its easier to wipe.

My son is five and he still yells for us to clean him. He is (slowly but surely) learning to do it himself.

Too funny! I wish mine cared. He is 2 1/2 and just gets off like nothing and has skids in his pants. If we ask him which one, pee or poop, regardless of what he did he answers yes to both everytime.

I think it is never to early to learn to wipe. We are in the process of learning. Anything is better than changing diapers!

I am having a similar problem. My son is now 4 and will not wipe himself. He yells and yells for me to come do it for him. He has done it on his own a few times, but sometimes he doesn't get it all clean and that is why I've continued to help him. I thought that if there was still some there it could itch and bother them... Could it give them a rash as well like it does a baby?

Start letting him do it now so he's ready when school starts. There will be messes but practice makes perfect. *smiles*

My son is nearly four and loves doin it himself . We sometimes have a few skiddies but they wash out...ha..ha . The big thing is making sure that they wash their hands properly afterwards. ..Leave him to it he will grow up to be very independant which can only be a good thing .
