My daughter had brain surgery in Sept. 2009. We are getting PT OT and Speech through a local place however, I am not thrilled with their services. She has a hard time walking, talking and she wont use her left arm or hand at all. I am lost and I have no idea what I can do as a mother to help her here at the house waiting for her appointments. She is getting 30 minutes of PT and OT together (which I don't think she is benifitting from it) and 30 minutes of speech. I like the speech therapist but I am not happy.

I just need help with ideas to help her get the best that works for her. Thanks for everything and all the answers..

There are also a few brain trauma rehab facilities around the country that might be worth looking in to for a few weeks of INTENSE therapy for the best chance of recovery and to kick-start your progress. God bless and good luck!

My daughter is now 10 and suffers from right side partial paralysis. when she was younger I would put her left (good hand) in a cast sling that was sewn up on the hand area ( for a little bit each day) to help her to learn to use her right hand. She would get very frustrated but with patience and a lot of hard work she did learn to use it. We call it her helper hand. She can now use it for gross motor skills and has minimal fine motor skill usage of it. Better than keeping it in a fist. I learned that I had to be very creative with things to get her to use it. If you are not happy with her therapists, don't be afraid to speak up and look for one that works best for you and her. You are your daughters best advocate, you know her best and don't settle for anything less than the best! What state do you live in?
