I don't know what to do anymore. Michael is hanging out with kids at school who are into (or getting into) drinking, drugs, etc. He already smokes because "all my friends do". He's started skipping classes, walking out of classes, etc., does no homework and will have to re-take a trimester of 2 different freshman classes next year for sure - who knows how much more will have to be made up as we have one more trimester left this year.

He's going into rages both here and at school. Lately it seems like he's spent more time in his case manager's classroom than in regular classrooms because if he isn't skipping or walking out, he's getting kicked out.

Then, at home, he refuses to do ANY chores, yet goes into a screaming meltdown when told he can't go anywhere because his chores aren't done. Someone walking by our house a couple weeks ago called the police because he was up in his room screaming, swearing, kicking the walls and throwing things. We live in Minnesota so the house was completely closed up, but the person walking by specifically told the police that it was coming from one room and sounded like a kid - they didn't hear any adults or additional people.

I'm going to call the psychiatrist tomorrow to see if she has any suggestions about his meds - we haven't changed anything in the last few months that could have caused these changes. I'm at a loss, I honestly just want him gone. As bad as it sounds I just can't stand him. I just don't know what to do anymore....

So sorry about your struggles. I completely understand, even though my son is a lot younger.

Going to a psychiatrist is a good idea. Have you contacted the Tourette Syndrome Association (http://www.tsa-usa.org/)? The site has a lot of helpful information and great resources too. Does your son have a 504 plan or IEP for school (http://www.nldline.com/iep_vs_504.htm)? School can be stressful, so putting a plan in place (e.g., open pass to leave the classroom for a tic break w/o asking permission/ drawing attention to himself; testing in separate location; extra set of school books -one set for school and one for home, etc., etc.) to help reduce stress may also help reduce some of the tics and rages. The psychiatrist may be able to write a letter to help you get the ball rolling if you're interested.

Just a thought. Hang in there!

Well, it's come to a head. Two weeks ago he was suspended from school for 2 days due to cigarettes and I spent noon to 6pm in the ER waiting on the results of a urinalysis/tox screen to see if drugs were the issue. Came back negative - not convinced though.

Yesterday was in the ER/hospital from noon to 7pm and he was admitted to the adolescent psych unit. Now I'm praying that he comes out of this with us having some answers and that our insurance will cover most of it.... I'm a mess with all this but have to pretend all is okay, you know?
