We have an appointment on September 3rd for an evaluation for a 2nd implant in Caryn's right ear. I would welcome any advice or comments from parents of children who have the bilateral implants

My son was simultaniously implanted in August and has been activated since early Sept. He is responding well to sound and tolerating his processors well! We have noticed a great improvement since activation...he is much more verbal when he in has them on and is making some great sounds already! It's so amazing what CI's can do for our little ones. He is just a year old and we are very excited to watch him explore the world of sound!

My daughter had bilateral implants in May of 2009, she was 4 1/2 years old. She had lost her hearing at 3 or 3 1/2 we think. She wasn't diagnosed until Aug. of 2008, shortly after she turned 4. She is doing great with her CI's. I am so happy that our doctor recommened going bilateral to us. She is in kindergarten at an Oral Deaf school and my be mainstreamed by next year.

Just joined this community, how is/did everything go? Otology just recommended that my son, who is now twelve and has been implanted for ten years get bilateral. How old is your daughter. My son has swelling over his implant site and they are recommending we implant the other side as a back up.
