OK, so My little Rileigh will be getting her aids on Thursday the 16th!!!! I'm nervous! I'm excited! I'm anxious! I know that each child reacts differently. Some are so thrilled and excited and some are scared. I just don't know what to expect. I don't know what to say to her first.

We also have a 9 y/o and almost 4 y/o, should we take them to the appointment? At first I wanted all of us to be there just to share in the experience BUT then I thought that since I don't know how she's going to react I decided not to take them.

I don't know, I'm just so frazzled, LOL!!! I told my husband I want to teach her everything over the weekend!!!! hahahahahahahahaha!!!

So what was your child's reaction when he went in to get their aids? And the weeks that followed?

(She will be starting speech theraphy probably the beginning of August, definitely by the end.)

Tracey, I am so glad for you that everything has been going well with your daughter's aides. My son just received his aides about 3 weeks ago and the first thing he said when they were turned on was "Shhhh, be quiet" to my other three children. I know she will do well with her speech therapy as well

Hi Tracey just joined this group yesterday but I know when my little girl was aided at 4.5 it changed her world. We were sitting in the audiologist's office, she looked at me and said "Mommy can you hear the music!" I just cried and cried. She has never taken her aids offf since because they are her "helpers to hear". It sounds like your little one has already realized what a help they are to her. I also work in a school for the hearing impaired which has a speech pathologist and I have learned that every child is different on when they start to talk, but rest assured she will and what a glorious moment that will be. Blessings.

Hi all!!! Well she got her aids and she's doing great!! I'm not sure what I was expecting, I think some dramatic event and her to start talking, LOL, but she just kind of gasped and smiled and was like ok I'm ready to go! hahaha! It's been 5 days and she's only taken them out TWICE!! And when they slip out, like if she's playing rough or jumping and falling, she comes right over and points and shows us!!!

The speech therapist came and actually said she was borderline for qualilfication!!! BUT my case worker told her that she was getting speech regardless!! Sooooo, I'm glad she stepped up for us!

And out parent advocate came and did the Ling Six Sound Test with her and she did ALL the sounds!!! Soooo I'm hoping that we can slowly but surely rule out auditory neuropathy!!!

I want the speech to hurry!!! I just want to hold a converstaion with my little girl, ya know? I so know it's gonna take time but gosh I just wish it would be here already!! Then I have to remind myself that she is only just 2!! LOL.

So another question.............how long after speech therapy did you notice results?

Quoting Janice:

Good luck tomorrow! I just joined the site. Both of my daughters are aided. Rachel,my oldest and now 13, was aided at 3 yrs. It was a GLORIOUS moment. I, too, was way beyond anxious not knowing what her reaction would be. But she responded with awe at what she was hearing for the first time. You will cry.........bring the tissues. :o)

Thank you SO much. I'm gonna add you to my circle, if you don't mind, because I would love to have someone to go to who has been at this for as long as you have. I have a bazillion questions, obviously.

She'll be 2 in August. My parent advocate (that comes every two weeks) 2 of her 3 sons are aided. Her first son as aided at 2 (I think, no later than 3) and her 3rd son was aided at 8 weeks..it turns out theirs was genetic. But we've had the genetic testing done and it came back normal. So we may never know why.

I can cry now just thinking about it, so I know I'm gonna boo-hoo tomorrow!!!

I wouldn't suggest taking the other children with you, this way you can focus on what is being said and on her.

Yeah that was my thinking too. I wanted it to be a "family affair" at first but since I don't know what to expect I don't think we're going to take them.

I wouldn't suggest taking the other children with you, this way you can focus on what is being said and on her. Caitlynn was not scared at all when she got her aids or her CI's. She could hear again and that is all that mattered to her. She knew she could hear with her new bionic ears so she left them on. her CI's are the first thing on and the last thing off.

Good luck.....you will do fine and so will she!
