43 and a grandma - and lovin' it!

I also am a 43 year old grandma! First time grandma. My granddaughter was born on September 5th, 2008 and I am finding it such a joy to be a grandma at my age. I was married at 20 and I have two grown sons ages 22 and 21. My younger son was married at 20 and then soon after along came a baby! I have six sisters myself and I am #5 - but the first grandma out of the seven sisters. They are all jealous! I just watched her this last weekend for a day and a half so my son and his wife could stay at a nice hotel before he left for Iraq yesterday. It was so fun to keep her. My husband adores her and we are having so much fun being grandparents. We still look young and don't fit the traditional grandparent look but we are lovin' that too! To be enjoying our 40's as grandparents is great!

Congrats  Beth, I'm 42 and have TWO granddaughters, ages 3 and 1 and I can't tell you the joy that these two have brought into me and my husbands lives.  My daughter just moved back home with both of them and while it's stressful it's also so much fun to have them there when we come home from work! I'm sure you'll be a blessing and such help to your daughter-in-law while your son is away.  You and your family will be in my prayers......Lisa

I am 44 and was a grandma at 41. I have 2 grandaughters ages 3/12 and 1/1/2 and another baby grandchild is due in Aud and I love being a young grandma. I can still be a kid with the girls. I wouldn't change it for nothing.

I can see I have found a home here. I am 35 right now and my 20 year old is expecting, which will make me a 36 year old grandma when the baby is born. I have to admit I have much anxiety. I still have a 4 year old at home!

congrats on your first grandchild. I too married young and so did my kids. so I have 4 and one on the way. It is wonderful to be a grandma, and to share that with the love of your life. God be with you and your family while your son in Iraq.

I have to admit being a young grandparent has it benefits. We have a grand daughter who was born Sept. 8,2007. She is such a joy for us. I am home full time and get to take care of her while mommy and daddy work. My husband is retired and a real estate agent now so he can come and go while she is here and she loves it.Our son and his wife just had their second anniversary in August, our son just turned 24 on the 11 of Oct.She is running all over the place and is talking pretty good for a year old. Everyday is an adventure and we love it.

Congrats Beth on the birth of your granddaughter.Your in for a joyous ride so to speak,and yes we still look young and we don't fit the traditional grandparent look,but thats whats so special about it, we are still young enough to grow old with our grandchildren,just as we grew older with our own children.My son-in-law was a marine, he has also served in Iraq,he was deployed 3 different times before his term was over,he's now home with my daughter and his two children,Thank God he made it home safe.My prayers are with you and your son as well to come back home safe!!
