I chose to have the IUD (Mirena) implanted. I am now regretting that decision. I am having pains and it just doesn't feel right. I was just wondering if anyone else had problems with the mirena. What method works best?? I really don't want to have another child....not in the near future anyway!! I really want to get the mirena removed, but I would like to have a back up control plan. Any suggestions???

IVE BEEN ON THE DEPO SHOT FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. I LOVE IT. I GET 4 PERIODS A YEAR AND I DONT GET ANY PAINS. THERES A LOT OF CONTROVERSY ABOUT THIS SHOT SAYING THAT IT MAKES YOU GAIN WEIGHT AND POSSIBLY HAVE HAIR LOSS. BUT I THINK WITH THE RIGHT NUTRITION AND JUST EVERYDAY ACTIVITY THOSE THINGS GET CANCELED OUT. I STILL HAVE ALL MY HAIR, AND IN FACT, I'VE LOST MORE WEIGHT!

Thanks for the advice ladies! I just had the mirena removed, for it was not right for me. I am now taking the pill. I am not a fan of taking the pill everyday but I am willing to try it. I discussed other options with the doctor, but I really dont want to implant another foriegn object into my body. On the bright side my birth control pills are fortified with iron. :)

The Mirena is effective but if it's not right for you then you are right to consider an alternative. Seeming as you have the Implant indicates to me that you are not a fan of the pill or condoms. Have you tried the Depo injections? There is Depo-provera or Depo-ralovera and others. It is an injection you get every 3 months. I like it, it doesn't hurt as it is injected in your bum and there's too much fat there to feel much. The best thing about it in my opinion is that one side effect is NO PERIODS!

I have the implanon. It is a little bar like thing that goes into your arm. It lasts for three years but can be taken out at any time prior. I have tried alot of methods of birth control. the Nuva ring gave me very scary effects. The shot effected my back in such a way that i was pretty much paralized for 3-4 weeks. I could not move a mussle in my back without excruciating pain. The implanon is the best one i have tried so far. I have not used any other contraceptive like condoms or anything and it has been effective for the first year. It does hurt going in tho. The doctor numbs the spot where it will be inserted which is the painful part. that numbing stuff burns bad. then after it is in there it will take a day or two before you can just forget about it. It is a little sore. But really effective and worth it. I have suggested the implanon to everyone I know. It really works and you dont have to change anything monthly or worry about it moving and becomming defective. It really works.
