Do you feel like you are forcing your child to do sports?

My 10 year old daughter does not want to participate in any sports, but she is physically able- she got the height to be a basketball player, she can run pretty fast for soccer, can throw a ball and has fast reflexes for a soft ball..but NO, she has all the excuses-like she does not want to hurt somebody or be hurt playing basketball, she hates to step on wet grass playing soccer, and she can hit the ball for softball! Now, she does not do any of those sports, but I feel she needs to learn how to play for fun and not be a sore loser or just be a sport! Any advise from parents with the same experience please??

Let her try what she wants to try... It is easy to say they "need" those skills, but really, she can find them in another activity. I tried my daughter in several activities and finally she just said MOM, all I want to do is Draw. That is her love and although I wish she would try sports, she is happy and productive.

Yeah, I agree, there is always band, art, and drama too. I am 5'11" and I was forced to play basketball, I had the height, but none of the skills, I was just too clumsy. Both of my brothers and all of my cousins are champion high school wrestlers. Maybe the athlete gene skipped me! Do get your child involved in an activity though, no matter what it is!!

You could try a non-sport activity, swimming or gymnastics or any sort of dance, karate, track and field, I'm sure the list goes on. Good luck! it is important for to have some sort of activity but perhapse she's just not overly competitive.
