Im freaking out lately because I feel bad that he doesnt have kids to play with. There are kids on the block but no one around his age (4 1/2) or hard to try to get to know. He has a couple friends from his preschool but it seems Im the one trying to always make the plans and I dont know why it usually doesnt work out I wish there were other moms like me that would want to get together but it gives me so much anxiety worrying about him

First of all, take a deep breath and relax! Society is pretty hard on parents with only one child, making it sound as if the child will wind up being some sort of social misfit if they don't have peers to play with everyday. That is hogwash! He is learning social skills being in preschool and has opportunity there to play with others his age, so you are on the right track. Remember, deep breath and relax! : ) If you want to expand his social network, consider signing him up for classes somewhere like the "Y". Many libraries have preschool age reading or story time programs. He's also old enough to play Little League T-ball--so check out local sports leagues for kids. Look for a support group for moms in your area--many hospitals have information on these types of groups. You can also check your local newspaper for listings of various support groups. Many of these activities are free or minimal in cost to join. I took advantage of these things with my daughter and she now loves to play softball because of Little League. Good luck...and relax, you're doing fine!
