How do you get a preschooler to stay in their room untill it is time to wake up?

My dd has already figured out how to take the safety knob covers off of the door knobs, and there are days when we don't have to be up so early, and would like to sleep in without the worry of her getting hurt, or into things that aren't hers.

I'd say pick and chose your battles with your child. Some kids naturally get up earlier and need the comfort of being with their parents. I have to say that just because YOU want to sleep in on some days doesn't always mean your child will, and it's just part of parenting that some days you lack sleep. That means looking forward to naptime. I wouldn't want to be locked into my room, and there's really no need for your child to be left to self-entertain becasue you don't want to get out of bed. Invite her into your bed for family snuggle time if that's a feasible solution.

Get them a clock and teach them not to come out until it says a certain time, but they can play with their toys until that time comes.
