Is nap time over?

My 2 year old didn't take a nap today. She laid in bed for 3 hours, playing, tossing, turning (you know, the usual) and did not sleep. She got up, and was not grouchy or any more of a booger than any other 2 year old... She fell asleep in my arms about 30 minutes before her regular bed time... Is it time to do away with the nap?

My son suddenly stopped napping at 3. He was such a great napper with 2-3 hour naps! They even had to wake up him when he was in daycare LOL. But my niece on the other hand stopped napping before she was 2. Your daughter might have not been tired but it's good she did lay down. They do go through the phases! Now that my son and niece (whom I care for during the day) don't nap they have quiet time were they lay down the couch and loveseat and watch cartoons for a bit. They are usually quiet and sometimes fall asleep if they had a fun morning where I run them down (or if hubby is home he can run them around till they are sleep on their feet!) LOL.

When my daughter was 3 years, I switched to her having a "quiet time". She did not have to nap but did have to stay in her bed and could have quiet play with her dolls or "read" books. Most of the time she still fell asleep but if she didn't, she was allowed to get out after an hour. As toddlers/preschoolers, they still need some downtime alone to renew their energy. And I did start calling it quiet time to avoid her saying "I don't want to nap mommy" - less stress for both of us.

And if your child does stop napping, she will need more sleep at night - earlier bedtime or later wake up time.

I would wait and see how the next few days end up. There are recommendations on sites such as parenting. It tells how many hours are suggested at each age. My two year old needs a nap. A few days out of the week she skips it and this is simply because she is preoccupied. Every child is different so it's hard for me to give advice based in my childs needs. you will know what your child needs after a few days :)

Not necessarily. Personally speaking, my four year old still takes naps, during the week when he is at "school". His schedule is different on the weekends, though, and he doesn't usually take a nap.
