What's your Best Vacation spots/ideas for family?

We live in Myrtle Beach and I actually used to vacation here when I was younger. Nice beaches, water parks, amusement parks, entertainment complexes with restaurants and great little shops too. There's also the new Pirate's Voyage show that seems to be very popular (it replaced Dixie Stampeded) and there's Legends and a few other theatres as well. Most of the large beach resorts are reasonable and have great amenities like lazy rivers, multiple pools and such. There's also a new boardwalk along the ocean that is wonderful to stroll. North Myrtle Beach is also very nice for a little more serenity. If you are looking for lots of peace and quiet, I would recommend the south beaches like Garden City Beach, Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet and Litchfield areas. Oh and if you golf there's over 100 courses in the area. Good Luck with your search! Planning a trip somewhere new is always fun!!

Check out VRBO you can rent a house anywhere in the world and its typically way less expensive then a hotel (plus there is a kitchen which really helps out with cost). not sure where you live but the beach anywhere is always a great option. Also, some campgrounds have actual cabins you an rent or you could rent an RV for a week.....We went to Woodloch in Pennsylvania one summer (its an all inclusive family resort). it was so nt my cup of tea and I thought it was pricey for what we got but some people swear by it and have been going back year after year. In a few weeks we are doing a Carnival Cruise with the family. last summer we rented a loft in San Francisco (off VRBO) for 5 days and that was great. have fun. I have the travel bug big time and we do lots of vacationing. This is a big world and seeing it is one of the best gifts you can give your kiddos.

Grand Canyon & Sedona-While my family enjoys camping there, (going up again next weekend) there are plenty of hotels! Grand Canyon definately is something everyone should see once in their lifetime. The evening programs from the rangers are awesome! Sedona has great shopping, hiking, touristy stuff, etc. In southern Arizona, you can visit Kartchner Caverns and Tombstone.

Another great family vacation was next door to New Mexico. Spend 2 days at Carlsbad Caverns-AMAZING! The a few more days in Albequerque. We love that city! The Explora kid's museum-2 days there- Sandia Peak ride up the mountain, hike it down. Beautiful city!

Not sure where you live, but we live in Eastern Ky, and just this past May we went to Topsail Island, NC, to the beach. It does not have any big scale restaurants, games, gocarts, etc. It is quiet and low key. We rented a beach front condo and my 4 year old little girl loved it. We walked on the beach, collected shells, played in the ocean, and the sand, it was great and one of the least expensive vacas we have ever been on. We went with others to split the price of the condo also.

I want to take my little girl to Gatlinburg, TN. I went there when I was 16 and I loved it. They have an aquarium and a lot of other activities. There are caves that you can go and visit. I can't wait until I have the chance to go back!

Im a single mom of 1 son
I was also not a fan of Disney, but what we did was a 7 day Disney cruise it was fantastic, there were lots to do for both of us. We went to the Eastern caribean, I highly recommend the Disney cruise line it's a bit more expensive but well worth it.

I was also going to recommend Hilton Head. although you specified no Disney, there is a Disney Vacation Club Resort there that has lots of family friendly activities (one I remember seeing advertised while we were there was fishing) without the heavy Disney atmosphere. I think they also had some kid only activities to give the parents a break. the theming is rustic, but the accomodations are nice. It also has a private beach at the "beach house" section where there is another pool, games, etc. Anyway, lots of fun, but there are lots of nice resorts on Hilton Head.

Well I don't know where you live so I'm not sure what is close to you but every year we take a vacation to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. We stay at Marriott Surfwatch or Marriott Grande Ocean. They have tons of activities for kids & adults and most of them are free. We live in Michigan so a lot of our vacations are spent "up north" also.
