My daughter is 2 years old and we have been brushing her teeth with out toothpaste once she starting gettin her teeth. I asked my dentist about when I should start using toothpaste, and he stated that since my daughter is taking vitamins with floride there is no need to use toothpast. He also said that once they learn how to spit then you can start using toothpaste, because even the kid friendly toothpastes can upset their stomachs if it is swallowed.

I started as soon as my daughter got her first tooth, you can get toothpaste thats suitable from 3 months old, dont use your own its got too much flouride in it. I also took her to see the dentist at 1yr old, she came in with me on my appt slot i had talked to my dentist previously and they said even though he wouldn't do anything its good to get her used to the dentist so she doesn't get scared later on. He looked in her mouth and she wasn't bothered at all. My daughter is 2 now and comes with me to the dentist every 6 months to get a check up and she gets all excited about getting a new sticker from them lol

I read somewhere( couldn't tell you where because i read so much parenting crap) that you are spsoed to brust as soon as they get teeth. without tooth paste at first. I forget how old they have to be before you start using toothpaste. but when they first get teeth your spsoed to use a wet baby tooth brush or rub with a wet washclothe.

Actually.....right off. All dental age appropriate but....start with soft wash rag....then infant tooth brush....then keep uping the stages. It's good to keep their gums clean and massaged before teeth break through if possible. It gets them used to you messing with their mouth.

you should start cleaning the gums even before the teeth come in with a wet wash cloth or finger baby tooth brush, the when teeth come in either use the finger toothbrush or a soft baby toothbrush with baby toothpaste (no Flouride-they dont know how to spit it out yet!)
