My son is nine. He and I have a good relationship and i am pretty open with him (age appropiate) about different "tabboos" subjects. He tells me that few of his friends are allow to date. After having a nice conversation about dating and so forth, I concluded by telling him that he was too young to date. He wasn't that excited about this predicament but didn't make a big fuzz about it. Lately, few girls have been calling him (yes, already). Once again, I told him that it is okay for him to talk to his female friends but nothing having to do with "dating stuff". I can hear him telling his friends that he cannot date. I don't think I am old fashioned but when I somehow talk to other parents about this, most think it is no big deal. The way I see, if my son is dating at nine, he has nothing to look forward to when he is fourteen not to mention putting himself in situations that he is too young to handle. Thanks for reading.
