My son has sensitive skin so he's had a couple bad rashes. First we let him play (actually soak) in the tub for a little longer, then apply Balmex and try to change him very frequently. Has worked everytime. We also use powder with every diaper change.

Balmex always worked for my son. I still keep it around because it is great for galded skin from sports or too much time in wet swim trunks.

I agree with the corn starch. My mom told me about it and I thought she was nuts but I tried it and it really works. Just use a regular diaper rash ointment like desitin or balmex and the sprinkle on the cornstarch. Also if your baby is prone to diaper rash because of sensitive skin, change him/her more often and allow them to play for a while without the diaper on. The fresh air is good for their skin. I use diaper cream and baby powder on my son everynight after his bath just as a precaution, as he is sleeping through the night and he hasn't had a diaper rash yet. I also change his diaper at least every 2 hours. Like they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, especially if the child will be the one suffering.

Actually, althletes foot ointment will only work if it is a fungal rash. If it is just irritation caused by acidic stool or wetness, the A&D Ointment works best because it puts a protective barrier between the skin and the irritant, but I also use Desitin and ButtPaste. They only work properly if you coat it on the skin very thick, though. Truthfully, if used consistantly any cream should help prevent a rash, but you need a medicated cream to heal a rash. I would try to cut down on the acidic juices and foods to see if that makes a difference as well.

ok this is crazy but my best friend recommended to me 9 years ago and it worked wonders, it is called bag balm, and you find it in the pet isle in green tin, it was a miracle for me when my son was a baby and I just recently recommended to a friend and she said it was a miracle for her too!
