Hi, My oldest daughter, Anria has DS, she'll be 5 in Nov. The easiest baby ever, the most difficult toddler also! But we love her for it.

Hello...My name is Tammy..I have a soon to be 12yr old son named James who has Down Syndrome...I am so glad I have found this group..There are no moms in my town who have children with DS so I really have nobody to talk to about my son and the joy and struggles I go through to raise him

My son is 26 years old and has downs syndrom. He is our pride and joy. Pablo is a blessing to everyone he meets. He can cheer you up when you are sad and make you feel like a somebody again. He works at a handi-cap center in our home town. He is very well know in the community and church. Once you meet him, you fall in love with him.

Hi there, my son is turning 2 on May 1st and he has DS and Infantile Spasms. Yes, there is definitely a lot of frustration and anger especially when at 2 years you really get a taste of what's ahead....but as you said Ali, there is also much happiness that your child brings. I especially get excited when he does things for the first time, smiles at me and then smiles to himself for his accomplishments.
Anyone in the Coquitlam area?

Hi - my oldest son Jack is just now 9yrs old and has DS. He is doing remarkably well and I know we are all very lucky as medically - we have never had any issues (not actually related to DS anyway). However - we are now struggling as he is aware of his classmates having friends and he is DESPERATE to have friends too but doesn't have the social skills necessary to take 'having a play' to the next level of friendship. It is particularly hard as well for him to see his sister who is 6 so easily making friends, having sleep-overs and even my 4 yr old is beginning to develop 'best friends'. We are working on it but it is sad for us to see him unhappy.

Desiree,

You really have your hands full, especially if your husband isn't around. Hopefully, you have family or good friends to support and help you. I also have 2 other kids. They were a little older (3 & 7) when Heather was born. She had 12 surgeries her 1st two years and that was the hardest...needing to be home and at the hospital! My boys now 17 & 13 absolutley adore her! From the beginning, I really consciously tried to include them and explain everything...That was my biggest fear. That they would resent her for taking so much of my time or me for not always being there for them. My family is very supportive (emotionally) yet not very helpful with her. They are better now but when she was small she was so fragile and had so many problems that it made them nervous. I know it can be overwhelming but ang in there...Somedays I wonder how I survived alsmost living at the hospital but then I look in her eyes or she gives me a hug and it's worth all the stress! Heather also has a g-tube, cannot verbalize and walks a little...However, she is an absolute angel that has the cutest smile and personality you've ever seen! Hang in there and keep in touch!

[deleted account]

Yes! My daughter is 16 and wonderful, so hold in there! I know it can be a bit overwhelming when they are little and any changes/improvements seem far and few between, but it gets better! She still has language/communication difficulties, but goes to a Special School who are marvellous! She is currently out visiting a friend of which she has many and has a wonderful social life and is very happy and content! I wouldn't have her any other way!

Hey there Delaina, I have a wonderful little girl who is now 16yrs old with Downs, wouldn't change her for the world. She also was diagnosed back in 03' with Diabetes so that's another struggle but I just pray that God helps me deal with it and try to maintain her health in good standards and look over her. She's in highschool and loves school. She beats me getting up some mornings getting ready for school. I do have to help her with washing her face and brushing her teeth, checking her blood with her diabetic meter and feeding her before she's out the door for the bus. She's the best!!!

Hi, my name is Debbie and I have a daughter, Christie, who will be 21 yo on March 17th and will be graduating in June. Life has not been easy for her, she has had heart surgery, stomach surgery and a feeding tube inserted and still has one, had rods put into her back for scoliosis and ended up infected so they had to take the rods out and now, I am just praying that the scoliosis does not get worse. And Christie also has Cerebral Palsy, but on top of all of that, just to name a few, she is the most loveable, patient little girl that I have ever met. She loves everyone and no matter how sick she is, she always has a smile on her face. I believe she is my special angel because she was not supposed to live past 5 yo and has made it almost to 21. I also have 2 other children, both with bipolar, ADHD, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Life is a bit stressful at times, but to tell you the truth, I am not sure what I would do without them. Thanks for reading.

Hi Everyone!! My little Prince is six with downs, but I like telling everyone there is nothing "down" about Alexander. We call him Alexander the Great! He is the best gift God has ever given me. There are hard days but one look at his incredible contagious smile makes everything right! He is the sunshine in our family and everyone that meets him instantly fall in love, He is the most loving, happy, and funny kid! He is a character!

I have a son who is almost 4 with Down Syndrome. He goes to school with "typical" children & is doing great. Just started walking around 3 & we are still working on potty training. He is definately a Mama's Boy. I also have a daughter that will be 7 soon, without DS. She has taught him so many things. His speech is improving but still only says 1 word at a time. He knows what love is & lets us know everyday!!!!

Hi my daughter has DS - her name is Isabella and she's 22 1/2 months and started walking last week - we were so excited. She is gorgeous and funny and a real handful!!! She woke up last night and threw up all over me and my bed and herself - it was bad. She hardly eveer sleeps through the night and the Dr said she may have sleep aponea which is why she keeps waking up. But she is beautiful and has enriched our lives more than words can say.

I have a prince with DS...he will be 3 months old this month! That went by sooo fast! It was really rough at first and I started to fall apart, but I thought if my baby boy can be strong then so can I. He doesn't have any heart defects, but the hardest thing is waiting to know if his DS will be mild, moderate, or severe. I love my baby boy & I'm thankful God gave me this angel.

My son Asa (A-sa) is 2. I also have a soon to be 4 year old son and another baby due in May. Asa just started walking independently in December. He still only says Mama. he does use about 6 or 7 signs.

My concern if anyone has any advice is "how to handle preparing Asa for the new baby". Asa is such a mama's boy. He'll take me over daddy any time. Anytime I say baby and point to my belly he just motions to himself. Same thing if we walk down the doll aisle at the store or see a picture of a baby in a magazine.
