My son was born with PUV and had grade 5 reflux. He has surgery when he was 4 days old. He is now a year old and somehow his kidneys are functioning normally. His bladder however is severly overactive and if we don't find the right medication he will soon reflux again. Which, CANNOT happen. We were told that we are very lucky but if urine gets to his kidneys and damges them anymore it could result on renal failure. He was put on Ditropan and began hallucinating and showed symptoms of psychosis. Tomorrow we start Detrol. It's been a month since we heard the news on his bladder so I hope this medication works. Has anybody had to use Detrol for their child?

I HAVE A 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO WAS BORN WITH VATER SYNDROME... SHE HAS A HYPOPLASTIC LEFT KIDNEY THAT FUNCTIONS AT ABOUT 30% NOW.. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE TRYING TO MAINTAIN AND KEEP THAT KIDNEY OUT OF HARMS WAY. SO FAR I AM DOING PRETTY GOOD MYSELF. SHE HAD REFLUX ON BOTH SIDES, BUT THE TEST WE HAD DONE A FEW MONTHS AGO SHOWED SHE NO LONGER HAS THAT. WHEN SHE WAS A BABY SHE ENDED UP GETTING A URETEROSTOMY TO CONSTANTLY DRAIN FROM HER BLADDER BECAUSE HER LEFT URETER WAS EXTREMELY DILATED AND WE NEEDED TO TAKE PRESSURE OFF OF IT. IT HAS BEEN RE IMPLANTED AND IS DOING OK.. SHE DOES TAKE MEDICINE EVERYDAY FOR PROPHYLAXIS BECAUSE SHE GETS SO MANY UTI'S BUT I ALSO DO I&O CATHETERIZATION EVERY 3 HOURS AND PUT AN INDWELLING CATHETER IN AT NIGHT TO KEEP PRESSURE OFF HER KIDNEY.. I AM NOT SURE WHAT YOUR UROLOGIST HAS SUGGESTED OR WHAT PROCEDURES YOU HAVE BEEN THROUGH BUT I DO HOPE THIS GIVES YOU SOME INSIGHT..

My son are 3 years old and has kidney problems. He has reflux on both sides and the left kidney are just working 20 %. he has been in hospitail several times for many surgeries and infections. Today he is a very happy boy, but he takes medicin daily and lives on diett. We know that he must transplate some day!

my daughter was born with hydronephrosis iv, she 6 now and with both her kidneys they are working at 50%. she had so much problems growing up.

My daughter has kidney problems, she has reflux on the right side and its enlarged on the left, she was in the hospitial for 5 days last year form a major infection and we nearly lost her. Shes ok now, she takes meds daily and goes for lots of check ups and were extra carefull whenever she gets sick. There hoping the problem will correct itself since shes still young so im hoping she wont have to have surgery.
