Hello everyone. My daughter, Ayla, who is now 14 months, was born early via csection due to her poor growth before being born. She has had trouble eating and some motor delays. She gets PT, OT, early intervention and speech. She has trouble opening her mouth to speak, eat, and babble, and she also has some trouble swallowing. No diagnosis...anyone in a similar boat?

Hi Laura. As Calley mentioned before my daughter Ava is having trouble with eating. She is 13 months old and only takes her bottle. Occasionally she will drink from a sippy cup, but any time we try and feed her with a spoon she clamps her mouth shut. My family believes she will come around on her own time. The specialists have pushed force feeding on her, but they are not very convincing that this is the best way. It seems that there isn't a lot of knowledge out there and no one seems to have a solution. She babbles just fine and will put her toys, fingers and other items in her mouth. We began feeding Ava when she was about 7 or 8 months old. She would only take about 5 bites then and over time the feedings got worse and worse. I would love to hear from you and see what the doctors have recomended for your daughter Ayla.

I have a good friend that I met while our daughters shared a NICU room together. Our girls were born with CMV and have some similar things that they struggle with. Her daughter has struggled with eating where mine hasn't, but she may be of some assistance. Our girls just turned one at the end of Oct. Our girls also had IUGR. My daughter, Evie was 4 lbs 7 oz at birth and her daughter Ava, was just over 3 lbs. We both have PT coming in, they have OT as well, Early Access and Hearing Impaired teachers, with Speech Therapists coming eventually. Both of our girls have severe to profound hearing loss. Hopefully my friend will join this group so that you can talk to her on here. Her name is Sara.
