Car seat safety

I have a question. I am curious to know when I can have my daughter front facing in her car seat. The reason I ask is she is very small for her age she just turned 1 but only weighs 15 lbs and is 29 inches long. Some people say at a year and others have told me at 20 lbs. so I am just curious as to when everyone turned their car seats around. I haven't turned hers around yet and probably won't til she puts more weight on but the situation is that she is a very slow weight gainer and on her car seat it says at 29 inches it is ok to turn around but I haven't asked her dr. yet. Any advice on this would be helpful.

Even though the laws are slow to change, the recommendation is 2 years or the maximum weight in the rear-facing position. I could not agree more with Kelly's post.

I have the same problem...my daughter is 20 months old & 20 lbs...but she's very tall....I found a seat that can go rear facing till 35 lbs or forward facing from 22lbs....so I am using that & ke eping her rear facing as long as possible. I asked my dr about it one day & they told me that even though she is tall enough, they would wait until she hits the proper weight as well, it's just safer :D

Laura,

Thanks for replying as I want to do what is safe for my daughter and right now it's not an issue but I don't want to keep her rear facing forever just because she is so underweight her medical issues are the reason she is underweight. Thanks again.I will ask her doctor when I take her to see him and go from there.

Not sure what your state laws are but most states are 1 year or 20lbs whatever comes last. You should really ask her Dr because length is also an issue. Good luck on finding out hope this helped
