Our daughter is 11 years old and her mentality is about 6 or 7 (still with issues). We have had her to doctors and in speach therapy since she was 3. She's on an IEP and still struggling in school. The schools finally put her in a SLC class last year...which was about 4 years too late!! We knew she needed more help and the schools just kept fighting us! Now she is so far behind we don't know what to do and to make it worse we don't even know what we are really dealing with! She was born a month premature because her birth mom had ovarian cancer and didn't even know it. She was forced into premature labor because the tumor became larger than the baby! She diied when our daughter was just 6 months old! The doctors say that the effects of having that tumor in her with the baby was probably similar to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome because the tumor was depriving her of all the nutrients her mother ate during pregnancy and the tumor fed off of it...that's how it bacame so big...over 5 lbs. Now we are still trying to deal with the disabilities she has and as she is getting older it is getting a lot worse! She can't keep up with kids her age even socially. The doctors say she may never be able to live a normal life and be totally independant! Anyone have advice or ideas on how i can learn more or how to deal with all of this? We are at a loss!

unfortunately i have no advice but good on you and keep at it. My son has special needs, He is 10 and at he stage of a 2 to 3 year old. Except he talks relly well. So I was always being told that because he talks ther is nothing wrong with him. I'm just a bad mum according to the docs. My whole argument was just because he talks doesn't mean he understands what he's saying. I know how frustrating it is, But good luck and i take my hat off too you. Plenty of people have given up with children because its too hard. Keep at it i hope you have some luck

I too have a son with severe learning difficulties, he has speech and language problems, emotional behavioural problems, he hasa lot going on... but still they just tell us its severe learning difficulties.

we are however fortunate to have a special needs unit in 2ndary school here which he attends and gets full help from amazing staff there...

i know how frustrated you can get with no kind of diagnosis... life is abit of a bind with this, people just assume kieran is naughty and there area lot of ignorant people around...

arghhhh
