My 6 year old son has SID and has had many challenges. The disorder affects his fine motor skills which has affected many aspects of his development. There are several categories within SID but I wish I knew someone who has been affected by this and is raising a child with this disorder. It would help some of my frustrations of not knowing whats going on inside his wonderful head.

Hi my daughter suffers from SID. Her condition causes many other problems. She's doing great, but I'm trying to learn more, to understand. The sad part is that you've really got to go out and look for info and ask for help. None of the doctors or therapists really goes into all the detail. You've got to ask before you'll get all the help you need.

I've opened an Enrichment Centre in town, to provide the special attention and help these children need. We're still learning and have only opened this year January.

The occupational therapist is helping me with a programme that will help her to function better through the day and to help her to feel more in control and organised. We'll be starting with this specific programme any time now. If there's anything I can help with, I'll send you some info aswell.

I wish I studied Occupational Therapy!! Wouldn't that help a lot?!

Good luck. Keep in touch

My 9 yr old daughter has had it all her life.... She had acid reflux as a child so I couldn't rock her to calm her down or she would lose it all over me... Therefore she never learned to calm herself down, it took forever to potty train her because she couldn't feel her bladder full until the bitter end... she still has accidents... and don't get me started about socks. She has a very high tolerance for pain... she asks me to pinch her back... she's not happy until I use my finger nails.... It's a challenge... on of the best things a friend gave me was lazy susan type activity board... it was tow think round boards with a lazy susan type hinge in the middle of the two.... she put some carpet on top... When she was out of control... I would spin her around real fast... she never got dizzy but it would calm her down...

My son was diagnosed with SID when he was only 3 at school. He got lucky. He is in Special Education and has been receiving OT and speech therapy since he was in preschool. He is almost in 1st grade and has come a long way. He is even starting to write his own name. I guess that I know more than I thought.

Its amazing of the books I read about SID and I still wonder whats going on inside of his head. I guess its my way of staying in touch with him and wanting to help with his needs. Its nice to know of others out there who have a child with SID. Mommy therapy.

My daughter who's three (and also has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum and Infantile Spasms) also is considered to have a sensory intergration disorder, except she has exceptionally high thresholds. She's constantly in motion, upside down, seeking out loud noises, blinking lights, etc. We still haven't really figured out how to manage it completely, but we find satisfying her need for vestibular stimulation goes a long way.

Can be frustrating..my son struggles with It & so difficult to work how you can help them or do things differently so that won't react. Made some inroads with him through advice from his OT & him going to therapy.

Some other great books are "Raising a sensory smart child" by Lindsey Biel and of course "Out-Of-Sync" child by Carol Stock Kranowitz. These are my "bibles" of SID!
