Hi Carol,
We too have an adopted child (we got her when she was a toddler) that has been dx with PTSD, ADHD, dissociative dis., and depression. Our daughter is now 10 years old. After spending years in attachment therapy we finally figured out it was trauma that was the big issue. She sees a therapist who does EMDR and i can not express to you how much it has changed our lives. She now has an IEP so school for the first time is a good place. We did a lot of testing at Children's hospital in the neuro-psych department and that gave us good information about where she was at. She does take Ritalin that she enjoys taking because it makes her more like everyone else. It allows her to funcion in the world. You can check out the EMDR website at emdria.org and there is a page you can enter your zip code and it will bring up therapists in your area! Feel free to ask me anything else if I can be of help.

my daughter (10) has been diagnosed with PTSD, ADHD, and depression. i have had three children total, she is the oldest, her younger sister passed away at 20 days from complications due to spina bifida, hydrocephuleous, and a multitude of other things. I then had her brother Alex 16 months later, he was a very sick baby and until 15 months of age was diagnosed with a rare metabolic disorder, Sept 10, 2008 she was sleeping with him and she woke to him making "funny noises" and came and woke me up. He was intermittantly breathing so she watched me do cpr on him and 15 hours later we held him as he died. It has been horrible on us all. Our whole life revolved around him. And to boot right around the time he was diagnosed her father and i split and got divorced. he is an alcholic and pot smoker. she has had alot to deal with in her short years. She is very angry, mostly at me because i am closest to her. feel free to message me if u have any ?...thanx, April

He is doing much better. His PTSD is related to past trauma. My son is adopted. He has been with us for about three and half years. Mostly a lot of anger and rage, but that is subsided quite a bit. I was just seeing if there were any other Mom's out there with similar situations. Thank you for responding. I am sorry that any adult would put the 9/11 stuff on for any child to see especially one with special needs.

My daughter was around 11 when 9/11 happened; she has autism and her stupid teacher had the TV on in the classroom. She saw about 2 hours of live coverage before I got to her and 6 months later she completely shut down for 2 wks. It took me awhile to figure out the cause but it took years to deal with the "fall out." What specific issues does he have?
Diane
