Who has a child that is 10? Did you know there is a family plan that you should be doing? This is a plan of action of what you see for your child's future. A Family vision to get your child ready for adulthood and beyond. It is a combined effort with all positive family members and friends support system you have in place for your child. This should include education, medical, money, daycare, residental care, who will take care of your child if something where to happen to your and your spouse. All those unthinkables have to be thought about. There are organizations that will help you with this. In Mississippi it is called a Family Support Plan.

Edith, thank you so much for posting that information. Mississippi is really behind on what it does for it's people in genreal, much less for the disabled folks. I will check that out to see "if" Mississippi is listed and if not what can we do to get this program started. My daughter is already behind on these kind of things mostly because I was military and we moved around alot and partly because the information was not there, or worse there was nothing to offer. Thank you so much!

In Louisiana region 8 I would suggest to start with OCDD Ouachita citizens developmental delay. in Monroe the office is in State Building on St. John ST. Case manage is a state suppervised plan that does the same thing in preparing a plan of care short term and long term. LACAN and Families Helping Families of Northeast LA are March of Dimes Sponsered and have a lot of resource links for LA. and other states. LACAN (Louisiana Citizens For Action Now) has a web site that tells all latest info on what is going on in state captial. To work eather of these 2 places you must have a family member or be a person who is disabled in some way. There is a lady there that goes to the IEPs Individual Education Plan meeting in the schools to advise and guide us when we ask their help, She lets us make up our own minds after she tells us and teachers what she thinks and lets us know what we can insist on. She is there for the disabled person and tells us what she think will work best for each person. I have found in the last 17 years if I know what the laws are and what I can insist on all I have to do is tell School I will bring her in. There are times I call tell these parents what I want and they tell me what I can do before I go into meetings. LACAN and Families helping Families are state wide. Check their web sites. They will also go to doctor appointments and some of other meetings we need to go and think we may need a little backup. All 3 groups are there for us from the time we know there is a disabled child on the way until the day we go to the Lord.
