G-tubes at night

I have the same issue with my daughters y-port tubing it's always coming apart i tried the tape but since she is five she takes it off. And it's really hard too deal with her doctor the way they have it set up they want her drinking more than in tube feeding my concern is my daughter eats regular food, and drinks she's on tons of meds and she is just tiny i guess since this is my first child i have been feeling even more depressed with the doctors trying too stay on the tubing sometimes i will forget i need help but the doctors are giving me a hard and they have called cps on me twice all ready any suggestions?????????????????

My son has a mic-key button and we had problems w/ the medicine port opening every night and leaking. Not only is it a mess but they also don't get their food or nutrients. We took one of the kids old socks and wrapped it around the ports where the tube connects and taped the heck out of it. It helps a ton! Now we don't have a mess in the morning. Good luck it gets easier!

my daughter's g-tube would loosen as well and i started taping the dfeeding tube to her pj's around the waist. i also tape both of the ports where the feeding tube comes together with the hose from the bag and then the port where you put the med's in at. it's not fun trying to clean the glue left on the feeding tube, but if you use dawn dish soap and really hot water (as hot as you can stand it) it comes right off. the plus side is that having to get up in the middle of the night to change the pj's and bedding are reduced to rarely. hope this helps

We had that problem with my daughter's first g-tube. The small medicine port kept popping open. I just took some surgical tape and taped around the whole port at night. You can also use the same surgical tape to tape a section of tube to her tummy which can help keep her from pulling the tube loose. Good luck. It gets easier.

Hello Aleah,
Yea for getting the G tube. That too was our best decision with our daughter. She has ha her tube for a year and a half now and we also had that same problem in the beginning. When we put in the extension tube and connect to the feeding we turn it 180* and then tuck that extended part into her diaper just a little. This has been a huge help and it keeps her from pulling it out. We have also used that soft medical tape to tape the tube to her belly; that has also helped.

Hi Misty,
My daughter has CP and had a g-tube since Nov. 2007. She gets continuous feeds at night and 2 hours during the day. What we do for her is she is hooked to a pump and it pumps formula into her. She gets 60mls/hour for 10 hours at night and gets 2 feedings of 100mls/hour during the day. It is great!! She gained 20lbs in one month and doesn't throw up anymore. The only thing is having to be some place at certain times to feed her but we make it work. It is the best thing I have ever done for her.

My son Jacob is 4 months old and has been diagnosed with failure to thrive. He has had the MIc-Key since 2 weeks of age because of severe reflux. At our recent GI doc visit he is still growing farther from the appropriate weight curve. I was told that I would get a call from the nutritionist and he will be on continuous feeds. How does that work exactly?? I have a total of 5 Children with jacob being a twin. I have experienced alot of things but this is uncharted territory.

Hi im not sure what the Bard g-tube is, but my son has a mickey button, and it is wonderful. We have only had a problem with it leaking once and that was becuase the extension wore out before insurance ok'd more that one a month. Maybe you should look into it. It is wonderful!!

My son is now 4months old and he has had a g tube since 2 weeks of age. He has a mic-key tube. He had leakage for the longest time. we were changing clothes and bedding all the time. Found out he had the wrong size button.The one they put in was a 14R 1.5 when it should've been a 1.0. We have failure to thrive and recently added a nutritionist to our med record. which we may have to do continuous here soon. Good Luck

Have they considered a Mickey? They fit close to the tummy and they connction tubing has a "locking" nub to keep it from coming disconnected. My son has one, and it has work wonderfully for both preventing the mess and during the day it doen't show...

Well she just got her G-tube on the 3rd of December so I hope we dont have to replace it already!!! and we just put some gauze over it and taped it and that worked... but during the day it keeps coming out now.

Sounds like your port is loosening up, when's the last time it was replaced? The other answer when we had that problem was we figured out there was another, larger port under the 2 smaller ones. My son has a y adapter at the end of his tube. There's 2 small ports for meds, and under one of the smaler ones is a bigger one that fits much better. The last option is to use medical tape and tape the heck out of it every night! But it's not fun undoing it the next morning....
