Sorry I didn't see this before, but my son had this surgery last August, but there were other places where the surgeon had to lengthen...I know it won't be of much help my son was miserable for a bit especially having to have casts on his legs and no movement...but as the days went by not so bad...after the casts came off he had muscle spasms a lot in his legs, but is normal...I wish I would have seen this to help you I was just doing research for the next surgery on my son next week which is his hips and saw this...it is tough my son is six and started the surgeries last year when he was five not only for them, but for you as a parent, but the results in my son was amazing and I hope the same for you!

No my son didn't have that kind of surgery..his hip was out and they had to put his hip back into place, by cutting the femmer and turning the leg which in the end made his leg shorter after the surgery. The docotor also loosened his hamstrings and groin tendens so that he wasn't so tight. That is how his hip came out in the first place.
Then after the surgery he was put in a full body cast from armpits to ankles for 7 weeks.
It was not fun but worth it in the end.
I hope all goes well for your little one.
Sorry i couldn't be of more help.
