Has your child on Intuniv experienced a weight gain?

My 7-year-old son began taking Tenex over a year ago and was transitioned to Intuniv, the time-release form. It seems to have helped his tics and concentration. However, he has gained about 30 pounds in 16 months. His neurologist insists it is NOT the medication. However, I read that 7% of people on this drug DO gain weight. Any feedback? Thanks.

Hello Stefanie, my son who is eight is on Intuniv. He is having the opposite affect. His growth is slowing down, especially his height. He used to be at 92% with height. Now he is at 75%. The weight is at 75% now too, which used to be at 90%. We have tried other medicines, but none seem to work as well. There isn't really too much I can do because he has to be on medicine. Paula

Hi Stepanie, Does your son have Tourette's Syndrome? My daughter, 8, was diagnosed a year ago and went through the exact same thing with the med change, but she has not gained the weight. Unfortunately, the Intuniv did great helping her with the ADHD and her tics, it did not last. We are going to have to discuss this situation with her doctor at her next visit because it seems her tics are getting worse (vocal ones anyway) and she is bouncing off the walls. It's effecting her at school now too.
