Hi, my 6 year old daughter is dependent on glycerin suppositories (babylax) and will not have a bowel movement without them. We have been using them since she turned one year old because of chronic constipation. Over the years we have tried Myralax, lactilous, prunes, prune juice, pears, pear juice karo syrup, fiber, senna and nothing has worked. Her diet is gluten and cassien-free and she eats only pureed food. Lately the suppositories have not worked as well and we are really desperate to find something to help her. Anyone have any suggestions?

my daughter had sever constipation......she now has Doc-Q-Lace capsules which helps pull moisture into her colon to help her have a bowl movement, She takes two capsules a day......really nice finally for her to go without pain. Shes a spastic quadriplegic.

Sounds like mine.
One thing I can recommend: the recipes on the bedrok community website are great for kickstarting sluggish bowels - for a little while, at least, it'll seem like the days of doo-difficulties are over.

Hi Heather, thank you for your reply. I wish Olivia could do Yoga - she is non-mobile though and non-verbal. Even though she is 6 now she is like an infant developmentally. I try to exercise her a lot and stretch her out. She will not go without a suppository - even when I can tell she really needs to go. Craniosacral therapy was wonderful - love it for her - hasn't helped her digestion but it definitely calms her down when we take her. Love it!! Haven't tried acupuncture yet - no one near us will see children. Thank you for the ideas - any others are very welcome!

this may sound strange, but have you looked in to yoga? All that bending and twisting can get things going. There is also Reglan- a med- that increases the involuntarily muscle movements in the digestive system to push things a long- although there has been some debate recently over some possible facial tic/neurological side effects. If you're willing to look into alternative therapies, look at acupuncture, or cranial sacro therapy. We use boatloads of miralax and it works very well for our son.

HiErica
My 6 year old son has chronic constipation too , he has been on medication since he was 3 months old over the years he has been on lactulose , merbentyl syrup , picolax to clear him out , now he is on movicol peadiatric plain , he has 2 sachets a day , he has been on to up to 10 sachets per day , he also has 7.5 ml of sodium picosulphate , he can go 3 - 4 days without doing any thing , then he has days where he is really loose & pumps & follows through with out warning & soils his pants , trousers & socks , he soils in school , but the last couple of days the teachers in his main stream infant school have taken him to the toilet & he has managed to do poos on the toilet in school , he does go to the toliet at home for wees & poos but still has his accidents .my son also has dyspraxia & autism , has just been diagnosed with this , my older son is on 20 mls of lactulose & 5 ml of sodium picosulphate , he has been on medication since he was 3 years old he use to be on myerbental syrup too, my youngest daughter has 15 ml of lactulose too , yet my oldest daughter has no problems with her bowels , I suffer from IBS too.For more information look up ERIC on the web site , which stands for Education and Resources for Improving Childhood Continence web address is www.eric.org.uk hope you find this link helpful .Does your daughter see a constipation nurse or a gastroenterologist ? Apple juice helps does she drink full milk ? as she may be intolerant to milk , try her on soya milk , or lacto free milk as milk can swell the stomach if they have an intolerance to it , good luck , let me know how you go with your daughter if you want to chat inbox me , take care xxxx
